Homebrew Banished Angel Species Details
“They were once the paragons of virtue and beauty with wings of white and gold, but now they are shunned and cast out for their sins against their creators. The gods made them, but now they must walk among us as outcasts. Beware the fallen, friend, for they’re not bound to law and goodness like they once were.”
— Muriel Thatch, The Heavens Above, the Hells Bellow
Fallen from the graces of their god, these angels are seen as betrayers and blights to the codes of good and law that pervade the celestial planes. They still retain the beauty and grace they had as an angel, but many of their abilities, powers, and skills have been stripped from them, leaving them only as strong as the mortals they once protected.
Celestial Forebearer
Once the paragons that protected the tenants of their gods and even the mortals who dedicated themselves to their gods, they now are left with scattered memories of their time as angels and even further broken bits of magic.
Most banished angels are resentful of their god seeing their judgment as wrong and decide to abide by the full opposite of the celestial heavens and they recreate themselves as devils and demons, garnering power from the Infernal Planes. Others desperately wish to repent, seeking means to appease their god to once again be brought back into the fold and regain their position as an angel of any section within the hierarchy. Some remain on the Material Plane and make their own lives there, finding other means to keep themselves alive as their essence slowly fades.
Cast Off Wanderers
Most fallen angels who fall are left to their own devices to survive and live in whatever new environment they find themselves in. Some find themselves in the infernal planes, eaten by demons and devils or becoming one themselves, such as Asmodeus. Some traverse the material plane, finding refuge in any town that they can, but often still find themselves unwanted or left on the outskirts of the society they are in.
Left with rage, loss, and sadness, fallen angels often begin to lash out at the world or find amusement in those who company they find themselves in. They often try and keep their personhood hidden, but some relish in knowing that mortals know who they are and what they are. Some try to show piety to their once-god-patron, to once again become an angel.
No Virtues
Fallen Angels are named as such because they call from their gods' graces. They fall to the temptation of evil that speaks against their gods' virtues and wishes, becoming tainted and corrupted, reflected in a change in the angel. They become less inclined to help others or adhere to the laws that people follow. Once they are proclaimed as fallen, they are marked by their god with the sin that made them fall. This mark follows the fallen angel for the rest of their life, and, if seen, people who know what the mark means will know what you truly are.
From the table, you can choose or roll for what your sin was that caused your fall. You can also choose where the mark is on your body or roll for its location as well. Of course, you can also ignore these tables, if you wish to write something else for your fallen angel.

Banished Angel Traits
As a Banished Angel, you have these special traits.Age
A banished angel has lost their immortality and slowly fades away as the residual divine spark within them loses its power. They can live to see 6000 years go by before their divinity is spent and they fade to dust. As they age, scars that look like cracks in their once flawless skin begin to appear.
Creature Type
You are a Humanoid and a Celestial.
Residual Divinity
You have Resistance to Necrotic damage and Radiant damage.
Darkvision
You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.
Imbue Life
As a Magic action, you touch a creature and roll a number of d4s equal to your Proficiency Bonus. The creature regains a number of Hit Points equal to the total rolled plus half your level rounded up (minimum 1). Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest.
Fading Spark
Since your fall, you have lost most of the magic you were able to use, but now you have significantly fewer abilities. You know the Light cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the spell Healing Word and when you reach 5th level, you can also cast the spell Zone of Truth. You may cast those two spells once per long rest. Casting these spells with this trait doesn’t require material components. You choose between Wisdom, Intelligence, or Charisma for your spellcasting ability for these spells.
Divine Origin
You speak Celestial in addition to your other languages.
Angelic Amplification
When you reach character level 3, you can call upon your latent divinity to surge within you as a Bonus Action using one of the options below (choose the option each time you do so). The surge lasts for 1 minute or until you end it (no action required). Once you amplify, you can’t do so again until you finish a Long Rest.
Once on each of your turns before the transformation ends, you can deal extra damage to one target when you deal damage to it with an attack or a spell. The extra damage equals your Proficiency Bonus, and the extra damage’s type is either Acid for Burning Penance or Radiant for Holy Armor and Divine Judgement.
Here are the transformation options:
Holy Armor. You are wreathed in protective light. You have advantage on saving throws against fear and poison, and resistance to poison damage.
Divine Judgement. Searing light temporarily radiates from your eyes and mouth. For the duration, you shed Bright Light in a 10-foot radius and Dim Light for an additional 10 feet, and at the end of each of your turns, each hostile creature within 10 feet of you takes Radiant damage equal to your Proficiency Bonus.
Burning Penance. Your eyes briefly burn with dark fire, and spectral black wings sprout from your back temporarily. Hostile creatures within 10 feet of you must succeed on a Charisma saving throw (DC 8 plus your Charisma modifier and Proficiency Bonus) or have the Frightened condition until the end of your next turn. Furthermore, your weapon alights with dark fire, dealing an additional 1d4 fire damage on a hit.
