Homebrew Far realm tiefling Species Details

Tieflings are most often described as being “infused with the touch of the fiendish planes”, the abyss and the nine hells are the most common examples of these, however many forget that the abyss itself is not an original plane but was grown around the shard of pure evil of the Obyriths, taken from within the far realm by the mad god Tharizdun. Thus the effect of the abyss is merely a warped form of the effect the energy of the far realm can have on mortals, and tieflings can be created by pacts with fiendish beings from and the energies of the far realm as well as devils and demons.

Tieflings from the far realm have psionic abilities and are highly resistant to any attempts to use magic or psionics to manipulate them. They also tend to be good at discerning emotional states due to being attuned to the minds of those around them somewhat and have slightly heightened awareness due to the mental effects that come with psionics.

The physical characteristics of far realm tieflings are highly varied, some have a slightly slimy or mucus like coating, some have vestigial tentacles around their mouth or sprouting from their body, some have a thin chitinous or resin like coating or a slightly insectoid appearance, such as multi faceted eyes, mandibles within their human mouths or even multiple eyes. The classic horn and tail combo is also not uncommon amongst those linked to more fiend like beings, though this type rarely have pupiless eyes or red and orange skin colours, generally being human shades or shades of blue and purple and due to the far realms effects being more mental it is also not unknown for them to be physically indistinguishable from other non tiefling members of their species.

The incredible rarity of them, combined with the exotic and often misunderstood nature of psionics and the far realm being renowned as the realm of madness, chaos, evil and general nastiness, from which all the most horrific eldritch abominations come, means that far realm tieflings are some of the most maligned of all, paradoxically though, their rarity and the rarity of information about the far realm and psionics also means they are often the least identifiable tieflings for many, meaning discrimination is normally more severe but rarer than it is for other tieflings who are easily identifiable as their usually more minor characteristics makes it easier for them to pass as non tieflings.

Far realm tiefling Traits

As a far realm tiefling you have the following traits:

Darkvision.

You gain darkvision to 60 feet, you can see in dim light as though it was bright light and darkness as though it was dim light.

Psionic legacy.

You know the Mage Hand cantrip, and the hand is invisible when you cast the cantrip with this trait.

Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the Jump and feather fall spells with this trait. Starting at 5th level, you can also cast the Detect Thoughts spell with it. Once you cast a spell with this trait, you can’t cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast any of these spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level.

Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race). None of these spells require spell components when you cast them with this trait

Psionic resilience.

You gain resistance to psychic damage and advantage on saving throws against being charmed, frightened or having your behaviour or mental state influenced against your will by psionics or magic (eg: calm emotions, command, suggestion), and to end any such effects.

 

Heightened awareness.

Your psionics make you more capable of sensing the intentions of others and noticing when things are amiss, you gain proficiency in insight and perception checks.
