Homebrew Wee Folk Species Details

Feisty, fiercely independent, and with a love for revelry and mischief, the Wee Folk are a diminutive people with a reputation as fearless warriors, cunning tricksters, and steadfast allies. Believed to have been shaped by whimsical gods of chaos and wild beauty, the Wee Folk thrive in rugged, untamed lands where their resourcefulness and strength can shine. They gather in tight-knit clans, their lives infused with a mix of ancient traditions, boisterous celebration, and an unshakable belief in their own invincibility.

The Wee Folk resemble small, wiry humans with weathered features and strikingly bright hair that ranges from fiery red to sky blue. Despite their small size, they are immensely strong for their stature, and their voices—especially when raised in anger or song—carry farther than seems natural. Their quick wits and sharper tongues make them excellent negotiators, if somewhat intimidating company. They wear their fearlessness like a badge of honor, considering retreat and hesitation as things for “big soft folk.”

While many Wee Folk live in wild glens, windswept moors, or underground burrows, they are not bound to any one place. Driven by an insatiable curiosity and a knack for finding trouble, they often wander far afield in search of adventure, loot, or a good fight. Their small size and nimbleness make them excellent scouts and infiltrators, but their natural toughness ensures they hold their own in a scrap—often using their environment and sheer audacity to outwit foes much larger than themselves.

The Wee Folk have a deep-seated distrust of authority and rigid rules, preferring to live by the unwritten laws of honor, loyalty, and personal freedom. They revere their ancestors and believe that the spirits of fallen kin linger among them, offering guidance and occasionally intervening in moments of great need. These spirits, known as “the Clan Beyond,” are thought to be the source of their uncanny luck and boundless courage.

Though Wee Folk live somewhat chaotic lives, they are deeply loyal to their families and clans, and they will go to extraordinary lengths to protect their own. To cross a Wee Folk clan is to invite unrelenting vengeance, for they hold grudges as fiercely as they hold their ale.
