Homebrew Developed Mimic Species Details

Mimics that have gained a conscious, Developed Mimics are more considerate, and sometimes friendly! They are like normal mimics, but have skeletal arms and legs coming out of the chests cracks. They are very deep minded.

Being mimics, they can still look like normal chests if they want to, which allows them to hunt. They usually avoid eating humanoids anymore, and rather eating large animals. Because of their time with humans, they have been accepted into many different civilizations. They learn fast, and sometimes are known to store books in the lower part of the chest.

They socialize in the day, then hunt and do meager tasks at night. They require no sleep or water, just food.

Creating your character:

Developed Mimic Traits

If you are playing a Developed Mimic, follows these rules:

Ability Score Increases

Ability score increases

When you are determining your character's ability scores, you may either increase Wisdom or Intelligence by 2 or both by one. Follow this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy.

The “Quick Build” section for your character’s class offers suggestions on which scores to increase. You’re free to follow those suggestions or to ignore them. Whichever scores you decide to increase, none of the scores can be raised above 20.

Mimic Relatives

Your character is still a mimic. You gain the following action due to it:

You can fold you arms and legs back into your "chest".

Languages

You can read, write, and speak common and one other language the DM says is sensible. The Player’s Handbook offers a list of widespread languages to choose from. The DM is free to add or remove languages from that list for a particular campaign.

Life span

Mimics live until 90ish years, but their magic starts to go away around 40ish and fully leaves at 80. When they die, they revert to their original state. They first shed their arms and legs, then go senile, and then turn back into chests.

Height and Weight

They are (most of the time) 6-7 feet. Their weight changes mattering on what they eat/store, but they average at around 130 pounds.

Le Chest

Because you are made of wood, you have a vulnerability to fire. But because you were made of fine wood, you have a slight resistance to bludgeoning damage.
