Homebrew Almeer Species Details

Almeers are one of the oldest races in the world, originally fierce tribes of angry brutes competing with orcs for territory and matching their savagery. When a tribe grew to large, it would split into smaller tribes with different factions following a new leader. The in-fighting of the almeer prevented them from conquering other races, though their tendency to form new tribes has spread members across the continent. In the last few hundred years, however, new kinds of almeer have emerged. Smaller, weaker, and more intelligent, the "nice" almeer have split off and formed several new tribes, but their numbers are far less than the "mean" almeer variety.

Personality

Almeers are angry savages. On a good day, they seem like schoolyard bullies looking for lunch money. On a bad day, they break into berserking fits they roll out of bed. Almeers have little sense of community and society, acting on a "might makes right" mentality. They divide a tribe into gang-like factions, each rallying around a strong warrior. The strongest warriors battle for the right to be chieftain. When one chief rules for to long, younger gang-leaders will break away and form new tribes(almost always later making war upon their "parent" tribe).

Physical Description

Almeers are both taller and stronger than humans. An almeer's body covered in lightly colored fur, ranging from dusty gold to dark brown( with rare specimens of pure white or black). Almeers possess extremely large eyes that glow in low-light conditions in feline manner. Their mouths are vaguely beak-like, with rows of sharp teeth. The shape of their mouth gives almeers natural smile, one that almeers spend a lifetime contorting into a sinister scowl. An almeer's nose is little more than two tiny nostrils above their mouth. The most distinguishing feature of an almeer is their ears, which are large and splayed out the side of their heads. Almeers often have scared, mutilated, or missing ears from many battles, and to have kept one's ears in good condition is either the sigh of a dangerous warrior(for a older almeer) or a unbloodied youngster. All almeers have life-spans shorter than humans, and mature more rapidly.

Relations

Tribes of almeer that come in contact with others races invariable try to make war upon them. Sometimes obtaining victory and wealth for the tribe, times calling doom down upon them.

Alignment

Almeer are chaotic and evil by nature. They believe that the strongest will survive their harsh way of life, and that death is better than living on weakly. Considering this, it is amazing the smaller nice almeer have endured the numerous attempts by their cousins to end their "weak" existence.

Religion

The almeers are convinced that natural forces of the world are controlled by Grol, a fierce and uncaring deity who values only strength and ferocity. Grol imparts no powers himself, but some shamans revere the mighty wind or the roaring fire and are granted spells.

Language

If the almeers ever possessed a language of their own, they have long since forgotten it, having adopted a crude pidgin of the common tongue and several other languages.

Names

Almeer almost universally use one-syllable names typically ending with hard sounds, names change through the course of their lives to reflect important events and deeds, almeers make no distinctions between male and female names. Examples: Bruk, Grik, Kror, Tek, Zort, Scut.

Almeer have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

bite attack is made as a bonus attack and inflicts 1d4 points of damage, plus strength bonus
