Homebrew Borrower Species Details

Borrower

Long ago, there existed a race of giants that fell under a terrible curse. Each generation entered the world, growing up to be ever so slightly smaller than the last. Over time, this added up until it was but a mere legend that any mere mortal ever stood higher than a giant's mug of ale. Not as fortunate as the fairies, they developed the muscles in their legs to be able to jump far into the sky, reaching places that most ages ago deemed impossible.

Age. Borrowers reach adulthood in their late teens and live less than a century.

Tiny Race

  • Tiny race requires special gear, designed for their size, and cannot use weapons or armor without the Undersized property. All weapons or armor a tiny player character gains through your class’ starting equipment, summoned weapons/armor, or weapons/armor you gain via feature or spell have the Undersized property. Undersized weapons have their damage die lowered by 1 stage, and in the event of using multiple dice, then only one of those dice is lowered. If the die is already d4, it becomes 1, and if the die is 1, it is not lowered (ex: d8 becomes d6, 2d8 becomes d8+d6, 3d8 becomes 2d8+d6). Undersized armor performs the same as its non-Undersized version, but creatures larger than Tiny cannot wear it. Creatures larger than Tiny can use Undersized weapons, but at disadvantage.
  • Undersized weapons and armor are priced at double the cost due to the preciseness required, but require half the materials usually needed.
  • A tiny race has advantage on Dexterity ability checks, representing their natural dexterity; as such, many tiny races do not gain a standard Ability Score Increase to their Dexterity innately, unless they are particularly lithe for their size.
  • A tiny race’s normal unarmed strike damage is 0 + their Dexterity modifier.
  • Opportunity attacks against a tiny race have disadvantage.
  • The tiny race’s push, drag, lift, and carrying capacity are all calculated for Tiny size. Push, drag, and lift are 10 times their Strength score while carrying capacity
  • multiplies their Strength score by 5 unless otherwise noted.
  • Tiny races gain +1 AC due to their tiny size.
  • A tiny creature takes up a 2.5 by 2.5 foot area, and can move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than theirs.
  • If the tiny creature attempts to handle something very large compared to them, such as a chest, the DM may call for a Strength check where a larger sized creature would automatically succeed.
  • The tiny race has disadvantage on Strength ability checks and saving throws.
  • Tiny creatures require half as much food as normal.
