Homebrew Beholden Species Details

A beholden is formed when a beholder is slain. The beholder soul is drawn toward the underworld. However, the beholder refuses to die. Out of sheer willpower alone, it forces it's body back to the earth, where it forms a beholden. Without it's former memories, it wanders the world, searching for power. 

Beholden are strange looking creatures. Their skin can be many different colors, including purple, blue, green, and dark gray. They have two eyestalks, similar to those of a beholder. Additionally, they have long, thick, tentacle like hair, if they have any at all. They have a central eye, in between their two regular eyes, that always is shut. When opened, it produces a large source of energy.

 

Beholden Traits

The strange powers of the beholden are included below.

Ability score increase

One stat of your choice is increased by 2 and one stat of your choice is increased by 1.

Damage resistance

You gain resistance to psychic damage.

Eye beam

You know the sorcerous burst cantrip. Intelligence, wisdom, or charisma is your spellcasting bonus for this spell. Additionally, choose one other cantrip from the sorcerer spell list, which you can cast using the same spellcasting bonus.

Central eye

Once you reach level 3, you gain the ability to open your central eye a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. Choose one 1st level Spell from the sorcerer spell list. When you open your eye, you can cast this spell. Intelligence, wisdom,  or charisma is your spellcasting modifier. You regain all uses after a long rest.
