Homebrew Alternate Species Details

An intelligent form of mimic, capable of shapeshifting to inanimate objects as soon as one is born. Usually in the form of a statue or other kind of common figure, although they can shapeshift into anything. Typically found near churches, Alternates seek sustenance through normal means or emotional vampirism. They can also give most sentient creatures a disease called MAD. It is unknown what MAD does exactly, but Alternates use their words to inflict the ailment. Is an instant death by suicide for minor humanoids capable of thought. Can only be used once per 3 long rests.

Is it a statue? A golem? Or something much, much worse? Shapeshifting humanoids capable of vicious things, with no shared goal among them.
