Homebrew Ashling Species Details
A figure often overlooked, a background character. While similarities are staggering otherwise, they're not shunned like the Tiefling, not hunted like the Aasimar. The Celestial and Fiendish heritage is present, but uncertainty and general unawareness of these figures lean towards better hiding. Their features are normal and benign, a range of attractiveness and such common to most others. Until their forms change and the true form is shown.
Ash and Soot
Ashlings are remnants of Celestial and Fiends, brought to being by mysterious happenstance. This mixed heritage gives the Ashling's true form their traits, the otherworldly traits from both sides presenting in an odd mix. From small halos or horns, and odd spiked crowns of lightly glowing light that mix both, the features of the head area vary from Ashling to Ashling. Some Ashlings have wings, feathered or batlike, or another mix of both. The more base appearance, skin, eye color, hair color, and such follow the similar traits of both Tieflings and Aasimar, with the tendency towards colorful features and otherworldly glamour that make them register as other.
Within their disguised form, they retain their general features but are disguised as just another humanoid. This form presents with none of their otherworldly features on display, just an average person. In this form, their flight can not be used.
Made to Wander
Ashlings have no place to call specifically theirs, for they're too Celestial for the Hells or Abyss and too Fiend for the Heavens. Born from rubble, from fights and wars across time and planes, the Ashling's life begins with unclear triggering. This makes knowing where to call home even harder.
They are varied people, from their mixed lineage and otherwise, but often stick to jobs that seem simple. Ones that let them fade away, or be looked over. They hide within the crowds of civilization or take to staying on the outskirts. They might be defensive, knowing their unique nature is something some would fear, or worse, wish to study. Being shown the true form of an Ashling can be an immense trust, and one that when betrayed, will not be forgiven.
UNSEEN UNFORTUNATE
People don't see the Ashling often, a skill they sharpen well. But being a being made from war, from what remains of fallen powers... It leaves it's mark, on the soul if not on the heart. Their paths are their own to walk, and many find light in their lives. Many like rejecting both sides that might lay claim to their success, and find their own way. Others find solace in connection with those whoms remamant power brought them forth.
