The Mourningfields are a vast area of grassland that stretch across the central part of Helador's livable areas. The main residents of this area are known as the Mothfolk
Nocturnal by nature. The Mothfolk thrive during the night, they are out and about during the day if the need arises but on the whole, they prefer the darkness of night. They have many natural advantages at night.
Lifecycle
Mothfolk are born as one of a cluster of up to 100 eggs, they then hatch after 1-2 weeks as larvae and spund a 2-3 month period in this caterpillar like form eating and growing between 3 and 5 feet long, then they go through a 1-3 week cocoon stage appearing as a human sized silky cocoon, they emerge as an fully grown adult Mothfolk.
The Mothfolk will often have their cocoon nurseries in tall trees the grasslands or they will dig out trenches to lie them in to keep visibility of this stage of life to a minimum. Human sized cocoons tend to attract a lot of the wrong types of attention.
Alignment
Most Mothfolk lean towards chaotic alignments, as with most races though there is no absolute alignment to the general populace. Their society contains the rich, the poor, the drunk, the sober, all aspects of alignment can stem from their culture.
Erratic Flight
The Mothfolk can fly but is not at all graceful. Their body hair and antennae are very sensitive under normal circumstances and even more so while in flight causing their flight patterns to be strange and erratic. Additionally their wings are capable yet are a bit too small to sustain long periods of flight carrying their body weight. if they attempt to fly a distance of more than 40 feet they must land and rest willingly or receive an exhaustion level and fall to the ground following the rules for falling.
