Homebrew Crimsonbits Species Details

Tinkerers of Twilight

Once inventive and jovial, these gnomes have been transformed into vampiric beings by a dark curse or experiment gone awry. Retaining their mechanical aptitude and inquisitive minds, Crimsonbits blend their love for tinkering with the sinister gifts of vampirism. They are known for crafting devices that aid them in their nocturnal lifestyle and satisfy their unique cravings.

Crimsonbits Traits

Racial Traits

Ability Score Increase.

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Intelligence score increases by 1.

Age

Crimsonbits age as gnomes do, but their vampiric nature halts the aging process once they reach adulthood. They are effectively immortal unless killed.

Alignment.

Crimsonbits often find themselves struggling between the inventive curiosity of their gnome heritage and the predatory instincts of their vampiric nature. They tend toward neutral alignments but can lean toward good or evil depending on their moral choices.

Darkvision.

Thanks to your vampiric transformation, you can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Tinker’s Instinct.

You retain the inventive spark of your gnome ancestry. You gain proficiency with tinker’s tools. Additionally, you can spend 1 hour and 10 gp worth of materials to create one of the following:

  • A Blood Vial, a small device that stores up to 1 hit die worth of health from your Fanged Maw feature (see below). This stored energy can be consumed by you or another creature as a bonus action to regain hit points.
  • A Sunlight Diffuser, a small device that casts dim light in a 10-foot radius. You do not suffer disadvantage from Sunlight Sensitivity while within this light. The diffuser functions for 1 hour before needing repairs.

Fanged Maw.

Your sharp teeth are a natural weapon. You can make a melee attack with them, dealing piercing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength. If you hit a creature with this attack, you regain hit points equal to the damage dealt. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

Blood Forge.

When you deal damage to a creature with your Fanged Maw, you can channel their vitality to empower your creations. Once per short or long rest, after using your Fanged Maw, you can immediately cast cure wounds (self only) without using a spell slot.

Cunning Shadows.

You have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks while in dim light or darkness.

Sunlight Sensitivity.

You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you or the target is in direct sunlight.

Languages.

You can speak, read, and write Common, and Gnomish.
