Homebrew Animated Armor Species Details

Animated Armor (Playable Race)

Once an ordinary suit of armor, you were brought to life through a powerful spell, magical mishap, or deliberate enchantment. Now imbued with sentience, you walk the world as a living construct, seeking purpose beyond your original design. Whether you were made to protect, destroy, or simply as an experiment, your existence is a marvel of arcane magic.

Animated Armor Traits

Creature Type:

You are a Construct.

Size:

You can choose to be Small (3 to 4 feet tall) or Medium (5 to 7 feet tall) when you create your character. Your size cannot be changed later.

Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Racial Features

Living Armor:

You do not need to eat, drink, or breathe.

Instead of sleeping, you enter an inert state for 4 hours during which you are fully aware of your surroundings.

Armored Resistance:

Your metallic form grants you resistance to nonmagical slashing, fire, and poison damage.

False Appearance:

While motionless, you are indistinguishable from a mundane suit of armor. A creature must succeed on a DC 15 Intelligence (Investigation) check to recognize you as sentient.

Constructed Form:

Due to your unique nature:

You cannot wear conventional armor or clothing. Instead, you can integrate magical enhancements or upgrades into your body, subject to DM approval.

You can attach magical rings or similar items to parts of your armor, such as your gauntlets or greaves.

Antimagic Vulnerability:

If you are subjected to an antimagic field or enter one, you immediately fall into a state of complete unconsciousness for the duration of the effect. If dispel magic is cast on you, you become inert and unconscious for a number of hours equal to the level of the spell used. If dispel magic is cast at 9th level, you become permanently inert and require a spell like revivify or similar magic to restore your internal magic and regain functionality. During this time, you are still considered alive, though unable to act or move.
