Homebrew Canin and Half Canin Species Details

Half Canin’s are a race defined by being half human and half dog. A close relative of the Dogfolk or Japanese kobold race. Both races are humanoid dog beings who walk on their hind legs and are covered in fur. There are many variations of both the originator and subspecies, for example some have exclusively dog bottom halves, or top halves. Another portion of this species may look entirely human apart from a few characteristics of your typical dog like ears and a tail, typically seen in Kemonomimi. A good representation of the Japanese kobold can be found in the modern anime Dungeon Meshi (Delicious in Dungeon.) 

These species are mostly known for having excellent smell, hearing, agility, stamina, and unwavering loyalty. This makes both Canin types exceptional guards, rangers, fighters, religious fighters, and party members. They can function well in any setting, whether it be high fantasy, space adventures, 18th century mystery or grim dark future. Whatever you or your DM’s play style or world, this is the perfect fantasy race, so throw me a bone and take them for a walk!!

Canin and Half Canin Traits

As a Canin or Half Canin, you will have these special traits.

Dark Vision

Your character can see in the dark as if it were dim light.

You cannot discern colors, only shades of grey

Strength Score Increase

The Canin species has an official ability score increase to strength of +2. Because Canines naturally have a very strong jaw and bite, and an amazing ability to survive in conditions the average squishy race wouldn't survive without the comfort of a place to stay. Canines also generally are know to have strong hind legs, which grant them the toughness needed to jump high, climb, and clumsily knock into the hardest of surfaces with little to no physical harm done to them.

Charisma Ability Score Increase

Puppy eyes. Its just that simple, those adorable innocent eyes make you almost charmed by them. The soft fur, floppy ears, wagging tail, silly traits and welcoming personality. 

Resourceful

You gain Heroic Inspiration whenever you finish a Long Rest.

Skillful

You gain proficiency in one skill of your choice.

Versatile

You gain an Origin feat of your choice.
