Born of the Astral Veil

The Atherkin are beings of mystery, their origins woven into the very fabric of reality. They are said to be the remnants of starlight made flesh, or echoes of lost souls that never fully passed into the afterlife. Some believe they were born from rifts in the universe, where the astral plane bled into the material world, giving form to something both otherworldly and ephemeral.

Appearance & Presence

Their translucent skin shimmers faintly, as if reflecting unseen cosmic tides, with veins that glow softly like distant nebulae. Their eyes, shifting between colors unknown to mortals, hold the weight of knowledge beyond time. Hair drifts and flows as if submerged in invisible currents, an eternal sign of their connection to forces beyond the material world. Wherever they tread, they seem half-there—never entirely bound to this plane, yet unable to leave it behind.

Culture & Society

The Atherkin do not form nations or empires, nor do they wage wars. Instead, they exist in small enclaves hidden in the ruins of forgotten places—ancient temples, crumbling observatories, or within astral rifts that shimmer under the right light. They are seekers of truth, scholars of the unseen, and wanderers between realms. Some meditate in solitude, hoping to unravel the mysteries of existence, while others travel, drawn to cosmic disturbances or omens unseen by mortal eyes.

Among them, knowledge is the greatest currency, and memories are sacred. They believe that thoughts and emotions carry echoes of the past and future, and that by sharing dreams, visions, and insights, they can piece together the great puzzle of reality itself.

 

 

Aetherkin (unfinished) Traits

Astral Step: Once per short rest, teleport up to 30 feet as a bonus action. Ethereal Insight: Proficiency in Arcana and Insight. Luminous Presence: Emit dim light in a 10-foot radius; can be suppressed as a bonus action. Resilient Mind: Advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened.

Astral Step

You temporally step into the astral plane and reappear nearby.

 teleport up to 30 feet as a bonus action. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Ethereal Insight

Due to your Heritage you gain proficiency in arcana and insight.

Resilient Mind

Your mind is more resilient to being charmed or frightened.

Luminous presence

you can emit light due to your connection to the astral plane.

Emit dim light in a 10-foot radius; can be suppressed as a bonus action.

Ability score increase.

You get a stat boost from you're heritage. +2 to Charisma, +1 to Wisdom.

You can speak, read, and write common.

Size

You have the build of a human, you are 4ft to 6ft tall, your size is medium.

Your base walking speed is 30ft.

You live slightly longer than a human, you live for about 100 to 110 years.
