Homebrew Daywalker Species Details
Daywalker (Human Variant)
Daywalkers are human hybrids born of a unique and rare lineage, blending human vitality with the supernatural essence of vampirism. They possess resilience, agility, and sharpened senses that set them apart from mortals. Their slow-beating hearts grant extraordinary regenerative abilities, and their connection to blood enhances their power. Unlike full vampires, Daywalkers are immune to traditional vampiric weaknesses: they can walk in daylight, consume normal food alongside blood, and are unaffected by holy symbols, running water, or garlic.
Daywalkers require only 4 hours of sleep to complete a long rest and can spend the remaining 4 hours performing light activities such as reading, meditation, or weapon maintenance. However, they cannot become full vampires and lack the ability to turn others into vampires.
Physical Appearance
Daywalkers closely resemble humans but carry subtle, unmistakable traits of their vampiric lineage. Their skin is pale or ashen but retains human warmth. Their sharp features, high cheekbones, and faintly glowing eyes betray their supernatural heritage. Their fangs and claws extend in moments of combat or heightened emotion, reflecting their predatory nature.
Daywalker Traits
“Born of both shadow and flesh, Daywalkers are a rare human hybrid who blend the strength and vitality of mortals with the supernatural power and resilience of vampiric lineage, walking freely between the worlds of light and darkness.”Darkvision
Because of your vampiric lineage, you have superior vision in darkness and dim light. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in complete darkness as if it were dim light. However, you cannot discern colors in darkness, only shades of gray. This heightened sense allows you to navigate shadowy environments with ease, a gift of your supernatural heritage.
Keen senses
Your heightened vampiric heritage grants you extraordinary sensory abilities. You can detect faint sounds, track subtle scents, and perceive minute details with ease, even in dim light or shadowed environments.
Sunlight Exhaustion
Daywalkers possess a unique blend of mortal and vampiric traits, granting them freedom from many traditional vampiric weaknesses, but prolonged exposure to direct sunlight remains taxing on their supernatural physiology. While they can endure sunlight without immediate harm, their bodies struggle to maintain peak efficiency under its relentless glare. This results in gradual exhaustion, which can impair their performance and leave them vulnerable in prolonged daylight encounters.
Their ability to recover from this exhaustion after rest highlights their hybrid resilience, but caution is necessary to avoid overexposure. Many Daywalkers adopt strategies such as traveling at dusk or utilizing cloaks and shaded environments to mitigate the effects of sunlight during their journeys.
This feature reflects their tenuous balance between the worlds of light and shadow, a reminder of their unique heritage and the challenges that come with it.
Vampiric Resistance
Your vampiric heritage grants you an unnatural resistance to certain afflictions. You have resistance to necrotic and poison damage, and your body is highly resilient against toxins. Additionally, you have resistance to the poisoned condition, reflecting your immunity to the frailties of mortal flesh. This resilience stems from the slow-beating heart and supernatural vitality inherent in your unique lineage, allowing you to endure harmful forces that would weaken others.
Healing Resistance
Your vampiric nature makes your body resilient but less receptive to magical or alchemical healing. When you regain hit points through such means, your body instinctively resists the external influence. You must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw to fully benefit. On a failure, you regain only half the intended hit points. However, your natural regenerative abilities during short or long rests remain unaffected.
Predatory Strikes
Your vampiric lineage grants you the ability to unleash deadly natural weapons in the heat of battle. You can extend your claws and fangs, turning unarmed strikes into lethal attacks.
-
Claws: As a bonus action, you can extend your claws. They function as natural weapons, dealing 1d6 slashing damage. On a critical hit, the target suffers 1d4 bleeding damage at the start of each of its turns for the next 2 rounds.
-
Fangs: You can use your fangs to make a bite attack as an action, dealing 1d6 piercing damage plus your Strength modifier.
You can also use your fangs as a bonus action to bite a creature you are grappling, or one that is prone, unconscious, or dead. On a hit, you regain hit points equal to your Constitution modifier + Proficiency.
Slow-beating Heart
Bonus Action
Your slowed metabolism grants you extraordinary endurance and rapid recovery. You can regain hit points equal to your Constitution modifier + your level. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all uses after a short or long rest.
Shadow Step
Your connection to darkness allows you to traverse through the shadows with supernatural speed. While in dim light or darkness, you can use a bonus action to teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see that is also in dim light or darkness.
You vanish into one shadow and emerge from another, leaving behind a faint wisp of dark mist. You can use this trait once per short or long rest.
Undying Resiliance
Your vampiric heritage grants you the tenacity to cling to life when others would fall. When your hit points are reduced to 0 but you are not killed outright, you can make a Constitution saving throw (DC 10). On a success, you drop to 1 hit point instead of falling unconscious.
Each subsequent use increases the DC by 5, as your slowed heart struggles to sustain you. The DC resets after a short or long rest.
This trait reflects the supernatural vitality of your bloodline, allowing you to defy death through sheer force of will.
