Homebrew Cursed Soul Species Details

Driven by hate, determination, and envy, Cursed Soul's are workers in Purgatory that have been summoned to another plane. Souls are set to work by the higher ups in the Underworld, whom they greatly despise. These souls long for freedom and are bitterly envious of those that leave Purgatory. However, they feel a certain kinship with their fellow souls, as they share their blood, sweat, and tears during their torment. If a soul leaves Purgatory, they have a 1/100 chance to become a Cursed Soul. Cursed Souls appear as humans, but with pale skin, dark markings on their face, and have a scar over the fatal blow that killed them in their previous life, before they were sent to Purgatory. Instead of a heart, Cursed Soul's have a flaming core within them, shaping both who they are and their capabilities, both in and out of combat. Cursed Souls usually act on a whim with unpredictable behavior.

The harsh conditions of the purgatory have changed you, forcing you to adapt to your environment to survive.

Darkvision

Due to Purgatory always being shrouded in the dark only lit by lanterns, You have gained the ability to see through the dark. You can see in dim light within 90 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Languages

In order to communicate with the higher ups, you were forced to learn Abyssal. You can speak, read, and write Common and Abyssal.

Immortal Needs

Due to your state of limbo, not being dead, alive, or undead, you have left your mortal requirements behind. You do not need to eat, drink, or sleep to survive, and magic cannot put you to sleep. You can complete a long rest in 2 hours, and cannot be poisoned by food or drinks.

Ability Score Increase

Your time in the purgatory has hardened your soul, making you stronger. Your Strength and Constitution scores increase by 2.

You're time spent in purgatory has traumatized you, and you'll do anything do avoid going back, even dodging death's scythe. When you are reduced to 0 hitpoints by an attack or condition, drop to 1 hitpoint instead. You can't use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
