Homebrew Chiroptid Species Details

Alson known as "Batfolk" or "Batlings", the Chiroptids are humanoid and sentient bats that inhabit dark and gloomy environments.

As is the case with most beast-like species, there is a debate among scholars as to how the "Batfolk" came into being. Some researchers theorize that the Chiroptids evolved from regular bats over time. Other academics believe the "Batlings" were indeed simple bats, but were transformed due to the influece of magic. There are even some sages who claim that the Chiroptids are the offspring of some dark deity or an entity from the Shadowfell.

Due to their heritage, the Chiroptids share some traits with regular bats. They can fly, use echolocation to be aware of their surroundings and have an exceptional sense of hearing. However, they are also impaired by direct sunlight.

The Chiroptids are small and furry, but tend to have differents shades to their fur depending on the environment from whence they hail. There are even some "Batfolk" who have specifical appendages, such as longer ears or snouts.

Chiroptids tend to thrive on dark caves or gloomy forests, but some "Batlings" live in the midst of civilization, usually in bustling towns with larger structures and plenty of shaded areas.

Despite their association with vampires and blood sucking bats, not all Chiroptids are carnivorous and some just try to coexist with other species across the multiverse.
