Homebrew Ancient Automaton Species Details
Ancient automatons are a rare and barely understood phenomena across the realms. They do not require food nor drink to survive, but will happily partake of each to fit in. They are made of incredibly complex, self repairing mechanical systems, but still possess the same human sentiments as all mortals. Their memories are often timeworn scrambles of data, and yet they persist despite their contradictions to find their own way forward.
An ancient automaton may be a rusted weapon of war, an awakened service droid, or a bio-mechanical fluke pulling themselves from the caves of the ancient artificers. Either way, they carry all the sentiments of a mortal, for better or worse.

Ancient Automaton Traits
As a Human, you have these special traits.Knowledge From a Past Life
You temporarily remember glimpses of the past, perhaps faded memories from ages ago or a previous life. When you make an ability check that uses a skill, you can roll a d6 immediately after seeing the number on the d20 and add the number on the d6 to the check. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Ancient Armoury
Over the course of your long life, you have been fitted for any number of jobs requiring any number of upgrades and adjustments. Even if you do not remember, the physical result of those upgrades may still be appreciated. You gain an Origin feat of your choice.
The Sum of Your Parts
Due to the inhuman nature of your construction, you find yourself indifferent to the things which most concern other mortals. As such, you gain:
- Advantage on saving throws made to resist the frightened condition.
- You are not required to eat and will not feel hungry.
- You are not required to sleep, and you can finish a Long Rest in 4 hours if you spend those hours in a trance-like meditation, during which you retain consciousness.
While these weaknesses of the flesh are not known to an ancient automaton, one may still choose to participate in the rituals of these behaviours in order to fit in or better comprehend their own mixed existence.
