Homebrew Canius Species Details

A race of anthropomorphic canines. Canius are predominantly shaped by their canine lineage, resulting in a diverse array of physical attributes reminiscent of various dog breeds. Most Canius are a mix of at least 2-3 dog breeds. The more breeds in your lineage there are its more likely to be called a mutt instead (4 and over).


 

Physical descriptions

Fur Colors and Coat Patterns: They have an extensive range of fur colors and patterns. Their fur can span from solid tones to intricate markings like spots, patches, and even brindle patterns. Fur colors encompass a wide spectrum, including rich browns, tawny yellows, and shades of gray. Anything that a dog can have they can have.

Eye Colors: Their eyes showcase a variety of colors, often echoing the diversity present in their fur. Eye colors include shades of brown, amber, hazel, and even striking blues, depending on each individual's distinct genetic makeup.

Tail and Ears: Ears can range from flopped over to standing straight up. It depends on the breeds they have. Tails can be from short and stubby to long and thin and everything in between.

Skin Tones: While their fur remains the most prominent aspect, the variation in their skin tones adds to their uniqueness. Skin colors span across human-like shades.

 Dog Breeds and Ancestry

Specific dog breeds can be sorted into categories. Depending on your Canius dog breed(s) group you can gain traits from that group. Breeds in your Canius pedigree can help or hinder you however. Make sure to remember to write what group(s) your Canius is under the other tab in notes.

Hound Group

Having a Hound Group dog in your past two generations can grant you a Wisdom score increase by 1. You also add +2 to your Perception bonus or a +1 to your Initiative. Every couple in game days (decided by your dm) you must roll a 1d10. If the number is higher than 7 you gain an ear infection and take 1d2 damage.

Herding Group

Having a Herding group dog in your in your past two generations can grant you an Wisdom score increase by 1. You can also add a Dexterity score increase by 1 or add 2 to your Athletics bonus. You are vulnerable to Thunder damage.

Sporting Group

Having a Sporting group dog in your in your past two generations can grant you a Strength score increase by 1 and add +5 to your swimming speed. You are more likely to get Exhausted.

Working Group

Having a Working group dog in your in your past two generations can grant you an Intelligence score increase by 1, and a Strength score increase by 1. When your character is grappled, shoved, struck or any such thing in battle that is touch based, roll 2d12 if the number is 18 or higher you have dislocated a major joint. (Hip, shoulder, wrist, etc)

Toy Group

Having a Toy group dog in your in your past two generations can grant you a Charisma score increase by 2. You are vulnerable to Bludgeoning damage.

Terrier Group

Having a Terrier group dog in your in your past two generations can grant you a Dexterity score increase by 1. You also gain a resistance to damage dealt by traps. You are vulnerable to Piercing damage.

Mutt

If you have 4 or more dog breeds in your ancestry you are considered a mutt. You get +2 to your proficiency bonus but you cannot take any of the groups with this.

Natural Weapons

You have a 1D6 Bite and 1D4 Claw attack. On a successful melee attack you may use your bonus action to make a claw attack on the same target.

Dark-Vision

You can see in non-magical darkness out to 40ft, you cannot discern different colors and can only see in shades of grey.
