Homebrew Snowsicle Species Details

Snowsicles hail from arctic regions and their bodies have adapted to the freezing temperatures and environmental hazards. They can manipulate ice and snow with powerful spells and snuff out flames with ease. They are wide-ranging in their appearances, but typically have pale blue skin, bright eyes, light hair, and elf-like ears. Many also have permanent ice crystals on their face or body.

Many Snowsicles are nomadic or travel long distances between remote villages. They are typically comfortable with long periods of silence and infrequent interactions, which may come across as unfriendly to the uninitiated. Those who turn to the mercenary or adventurer life are often driven and rarely show any signs of annoyance or exhaustion.

Typical Habitats

Snowsicles tend to live in frigid environments, such as Icewind Dale, Frostfell, or the Great Glacier. Many live in small villages that are somewhat isolated from the rest of the world. Others are nomadic, traveling with the weather and the . They are likely to offer food and shelter to travelers, but may have little to trade beyond food and animal hides. Their innate magic and experience tackling the massive monsters who populate the frozen wastelands can make for powerful allies.

Snowsicle Traits

As a Snowsicle, you have the following special traits.

Bane of Flame

Your mastery over ice, snow, and cold allows you to snuff out any flame. When you are subjected to an attack, spell, or ability that deals Fire damage, you can use your Reaction to counter the triggering effect. If it is a spell, the spell is countered (as if by the Counterspell spell) and the spell slot is consumed. If it is an ability with Recharge, the ability must recharge before it can be used again. If the target attack or ability deals other types of damage in addition to Fire, only the Fire damage is prevented.

After using this ability, you lose resistance to Cold damage until you finish a Long Rest. Your appearance may alter slightly, such as skin, hair, or eyes becoming warmer tones for the duration. Once you use this ability, you must finish a Long Rest before doing so again.

Cold-Blooded

Your body is designed for frigid environments, granting you Resistance to Cold damage.

Snowmancy

Snowsicles can innately manipulate the frozen elements. You know the Ray of Frost cantrip. When you reach character level 3, you learn the Ice Knife spell and, at level 5, you learn the Snilloc’s Snowball Swarm spell. You always have these spells prepared. You can cast each once without a spell slot or material components, and you regain the ability to cast them in that way when you finish a Long Rest. You can also cast the spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level.

Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for the spells you cast with this trait (choose the ability when you select the species).
