Homebrew Celesthyr Species Details

Celesthyr are people said to have been born directly from The Great Mother, Amalthea, before going into hibernation. These people have the legs of a unicorn with cloven hooves; a long, wispy tail; two soft, sensitive equine ears; and a long, slender horn sprouting from the middle of their foreheads. Celesthyr are seen to have lighter skin colors, akin to the typical depiction of a unicorn, with some slight variations. Most Celesthyr tend to range anywhere from being 6ft-9ft tall. Their eyes are a stark contrast to their skin, which shine brilliantly in a myriad of colors.

Horns begin to grow between the ages of 2-5 years of age and continue to grow until the Celesthyr dies, which can result in some extremely long, curved, and interesting horn shapes. Like the rings of a tree, the horn will reflect any damage dealt to it, leaving behind silvery markings where the wounds once were and continue to grow around it.

Values & Customs:

Horns

Their horns are highly valued among their culture, and Celesthyrs treat them with the utmost care and respect. Horns are seen as the ultimate token of wisdom, magic, and strength. Losing a horn in battle is seen as the “ultimate sacrifice,” proving a Celesthyr’s courage and strength.

However, if a Celesthyr is found guilty of treason, crimes, or anything else horrendous, their horn is forcefully removed from the base of the skull and destroyed during a public ceremony. This ceremony is called a “Cropping,” and is a way to shame and outcast members of their group. Celesthyrs with their horns removed are called “Cropped”.

Hair

Celesthyr hair is long and kept pristine, free of tangles and split ends. It is common for Celesthyr people to cut their hair short in times of intense mourning.
