Homebrew Cluckra Species Details
A proud and resourceful chicken with a heritage tied to the first great avian warriors, Cluckra embody courage, agility, and an unwavering sense of duty to their flock.
The Cluckra are a race of winged chickens resembling aarakokra, their bodies covered in sleek or fluffy feathers in shades of white, brown, black, red, or gold. Though their wings are too small for sustained flight, they can use them to aid in short bursts of movement, leaping great distances or gliding when needed. Their sharp talons make them formidable in close combat, while their innate awareness allows them to react swiftly to danger.
Legends tell of the first Cluckra being born out of the love of Hen Solo, an Aarakokra Sorcerer. He discovered a breed of fire-resistant jungle hens on the fire plane, their feathers flickering like embers, their eyes sharp with intelligence. Among them was one who captivated him: Lady Pecks-a-Lot, a hen unlike any other, her plumage gleaming with golden radiance, her spirit unyielding even in the face of the plane’s relentless heat. A master of both arcane and primal magic, he saw no reason why love—true love—should be bound by mortal limitations. Their love (and a bit of magic) forged the first Cluckra. Thrilled by this success and overwhelmed with emotion, Hen Solo did what any visionary would do—he built his legacy. Hen Solo took hundreds of hens as mates, crafting an entire race of Cluckra, each generation stronger, faster, and more magical than the last.
From a distance, Cluckra resemble oversized chickens, often leading to confusion among those unfamiliar with their kind. However, their intelligence, dexterity, and battle-hardened discipline set them apart as powerful adventurers and scouts.
Ability Score Increases
When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. Follow this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy. The “Quick Build” section for your character’s class offers suggestions on which scores to increase. You can follow those suggestions or ignore them, but you can’t raise any of your scores above 20.
Languages
Your character can speak, read, and write Common and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for the character. The Player’s Handbook offers a list of languages to choose from, though Cluckra commonly speak Aviaran (a language shared with other birdfolk creatures).
Life Span
Cluckra mature quickly, reaching adulthood at 9 months and living up to 10 years if they avoid danger. However, most Cluckra embrace adventure and rarely live to old age, as they seek glory in battle or service to their flock.
Height and Weight
Cluckra typically stand between 2 and 3 feet tall, weighing 20 to 40 pounds. They are light but incredibly fast and agile.
