Homebrew Architect Species Details
Architect
"We are fools to have believed any life does not start a child, but as they grow and learn in their adult forms we are given clarity to the great arcane. Our Architects of magic."
—Ealhurg the lucky.
History
The Architects are spiritual forms of arcane magic given a body so that they may live. Scholars intended to have these bio-constructs be ways to commune with the very fabric of magic itself and instead found themselves the creators of new young life. Their bodies are an amalgum of various creatures built to self sustain and most of all to be improved upon.
Upon discovery that these communion devices had become living breathing creatures the journey to improvement has ceased causing some under-developement in their function, especially their ability to manipulate objects with their hands. The species has found a way to overcome this with their natural connection to magic, allowing them to manipulate support pieces they may summon and dismiss at will. These devices are a feat of biological experimentation, arcane adaptation, and mechanical advancement, creating what is know as the first bio-arcanichal technology, a culmination of lifes advances.
Much has already been learnt from these curious creatures. They were previously known as the Precursors as they were believed to be the creators of magic, however it has been told that they are conduits for magic, amplifying the will of magicians allowing for greater arcane influence. Their unique ability to shape and assist in magic is what has gained them their title of Architect of magic.
They are only a few years old collectively as a race but are learning more and more every day, these arcane souls are eager to settle in to their new place in the world and learn the ways of life from their fellow creatures.
Appearance
A centaur-like appearance, they appear to be humanoid mixed with various crustaceans and arcane technologies. Their almost entirely featureless face is adorned by a crest or set of horns. Where the normal features would be are a set of intricate deep patterns that glow with magical light, when they talk this energy fluxes and the colour may change depending on their mood. These markings are found all over their body and all act in synchronization.
They have crab like claws that are mostly vestigial and are only useful for simple manipulation, their lower halves have a lobster like tail, and four long legs covered in patterns. Their bodies are covered in a rough leathery carapace, like an interlocking shell of flexible armour. Affixed to the chest, arms, legs, and head are forged support pieces of an arcane nature constructed as connection points and conduits rather than armour.
