Homebrew Cyberborn Species Details
The warning siren cuts through the cold night air. Steam flows out of the chamber as the pressurized door lowers. 2 elven women stare in anticipation. When the steam finally clears they see her. She is the first. She is EVE.
EVE steps through the door and sees her mothers staring back at her. She looks down at her hands and sees the bronze circuitry winding through her arms that allows her human hands to function. Eve takes two more steps towards her mothers and catches a glimpse of herself in the glass separating the rooms. She starts to feel a pang of sorrow.
This is the moment that EVE understands what has occurred. She should have died in that pod crash but instead of allowing her to slip into the next realm, her mothers have turned her into an abomination.
A Brief History Of Alumco -
Stefon Hawkson
Born of Cyber-Elven experimentation, as their name proclaims, the cyberborn walk through a world that greets them with fearful incomprehension. Shaped by The Mothers themselves, cyberborn were originally conceived in a laboratory as a unique super-race, combining the best attributes of technology and humanoids. Some cyberborn are faithful servants science, others slip into the shadows, and still others find themselves adrift, with no clear calling in life.
Technomancer's Legacy
The Cyberborn were first created over 500 years before humans arrived on **Alumco**. They are the only remains of the Golden Age of this planet. War and greed eventually sent the planet into a Dark Age and the Cyberborn reacted by going into a state of near hibernation, activating only for upkeep.
The Mothers outfitted each Cyberborn with either brass, bronze, or copper circuitry. The claim is that the elven host used to create each Cyberborn truly decided what circuitry was used. Each host would be wired with a new set of circuitry until a compatible set was found.
Cyberborn are able to blend in nearly seamlessly with elf or human. However, many, choose to shed pieces of their sleeve layer to reveal their circuitry, as clear statement of pride. The easiest way to identify a Cyberborn is at night. All Cyberborn have at least one optic eye and that eye glows with nightvision.
Cyberborn Names
While some Cyberborn keep their host name when they are reborn, most choose a new one. Most Cyberborn names commemorate the event that led to being changed.
Names: Trooper, Miracle, Guardian, Calamity, Bloodoath, Mauled
Cyberborn Traits
Your Cyber-Elven heritage manifests in a variety of traits you share with other Cyberborn.Ability Score Increase
Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Intelligence increases by 1.
Age
Cyberborn are virtually, naturally immortal. Those who don't die by some other means generally choose a final sleep date.
Alignment
Cyberborn begin as true neutral but are very much influenced by the host mind.
Size
Cyberborn tend to be between 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 feet tall with a weight averaging between 180 - 220 lbs. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 35 feet.
Darkvision
The vision of your elven host has been upgraded. You can see in dim light within 75 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in Darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in Darkness, only shades of gray.
Cybernetic Circuitry
You have Cybernetic Circuitry that reaches back to orignal design of the Mothers. Choose one type of circuitry from the Circuitry table. Your Focused Overload weapon and damage resistance are determined by the Circuitry type.
Cybernetic Circuitry
| Circuitry | Damage Type | Focused overload |
|---|---|---|
| Brass | Fire | 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) |
| Bronze | Lightning | 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) |
| Copper | Acid | 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) |
Focused Overload
You can use your action to exert destructive energy. Your cybernetic circuitry determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exertion.
When you use your focused overload, each creature in the area of the blast must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your circuitry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level.
After you use your focused overload, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or Long Rest.
Damage Resistance
You have resistance to the damage type associated with your Cybernetic Circuitry.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and Cybernetic. Cybernetic is the most complex, written language on Alumco, if not the whole system. The Language is not spoken but transmitted through touch. If a creature has any form of an active electrical system, they can understand Cybernetics , if transmitted to them, as if it were their own language.
