Homebrew Curseborn Species Details

Born with a curse, it is impossible to tell what creature it may have been originally. They appear humanoid, but have a spiraling mark like a tattoo spreading out from their heart. Curseborn are typically withdrawn because the nature of their curse can be dangerous to others.

Age. The average Curseborn can live to an average age of 30 if they fight the curse, but this decreases if they use their powers. The more magic they consume, the longer they live.

Height. Curseborn are often from 4 to 7 feet tall.

Curseborn Traits

A Curseborn's curse bears both special powers, and downsides. The Curseborn must learn to live with these traits for however long they have left.

Thirst of Magic.

A Curseborn's curse constantly requires sating. Instead of normal food requirements, a Curseborn must also consume the magic from a spell with a duration, or magical item. Doing this causes the spell to disappear without affect, and the magical item to lose its properties. If the magic consumed is a spell, the spell must be at least 1st level, with the requirement increasing every four levels ups. The consumed spell magic must have a total level equaling or exceeding the requirement to offset the downsides of not eating. A Curseborn can only consume magic with a total level equal to or lower than it's daily requirement at once.

Excruciating Channeling.

A Curseborn can channel the power of it's curse to become stronger as a bonus action, allowing them to deal any amount of damage to themselves, and add triple that amount to their next attack. After doing this, they are wracked with pain, and become unable to concentrate for the next 3 hours, and gain one level of exhaustion. The Curseborn loses max health equal to the amount expended until this exhaustion fades.

Exhausting Curse

Whenever a Curseborn would gain exhaustion, they gain another stack.
