Homebrew Beholder-born Species Details
Magical Mutation
Beholder-Born are created from years and years of magical distortion in the realms aberrations spawn from. It is said that the first spawned from wandering into one of the many portals to the aberrations home realm, or was created through powerful magical bio-engineering that forced a humanoid to adapt the parts of a beholder in a vein attempt at seeking power. The original creation is unknown but the result has certainly followed. The Beholder-born are a new arrival in the planes of existence and are often seen as a scourge. Similar to Teiflings, the origin of the Beholder-born shine through greatly in their appearance. They have naturally menacing appearances and otherworldly protrusions from their bodies. Though they vary greatly from being covered in spine, plates, or just being a muscular deformation of the average races, they take after Beholders in voice pitch and otherworldly presence. Their eyes always have intimidating stares and their harp teeth are shown constantly. They can have one large eye, or two smaller ones for those closer to humanoid. Their exterior often darker colors such as midnight blues or a royal purple.
While they vary just as much as the beholders they had melded with centuries ago along their bloodline; they do share facets of the humanity they once had as well. They can have plates or spines along their bodies, or even be an odd, squishy flesh with a maw filled of pointed teeth and a menacing appearance. They can have a singular large eye, or two humanoid eyes depending on the corruption they had faced. They can have a variety of voices, though often reverberating in an odd and mysterious way that overlaps the words they are saying. They can be purple, green, pink, or even a deep blue in hue. The eye colors vary just as the flesh does, but no matter what color you choose, they will emanate a similar light at night. They have a slim, but muscular build. The head seemingly large in proportion to the rest of the body.
Isolationists
Whether by choice or by racism due to their tie to Beholders, Beholder-born are usually forced into small groups of open-minded people who see them as people despite their appearance, or into complete isolation within the wilds. They manage to still develop their skills and live despite not being as powerful as their predecessors. Often hoarding what they can and hiding their appearance whenever they approach society to get goods. They hide themselves and try to stay out of the lime light from thought that others will hate them. They are used to doing everything themselves and will thrive in areas with no others around to drag them down or leave them be to work. Due to the natural connection to magic that they possess a few are scattered through the world working as enchanters or magic casters. A few taking on the more tyrannical tendencies or paranoid delusions of the ones who came before them. They are powerful but often have a hair trigger when it comes to society and how useful it can be. They require proof you wont betray them, hurt them, or use them for your own gain before they can consider anyone a friend.
