Creating Your Character
If you create a Caudite character, follow these additional rules during character creation.
As a Caudite, you have these special traits.Ability Score Increases
When determining your character’s ability scores, your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1. Alternatively, you can increase one score by 2 and a different one by 1, or increase three scores by 1. None of these increases can raise a score above 20.
Age
Caudites age rather slowly, fully maturing by 20, but comfortably living anywhere between 200-250 years.
Size
Your size is Medium (generally between 5–6 feet tall)
Darkvision
You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.
Auxiliary Apendages
You have two smaller arms located above your primary arms. These secondary arms can manipulate objects, open or close doors or containers, pick up and set down tiny objects, or wield a weapon that has the light property.
Anchor
Sticky padding on your secondary arms allow you to root yourself in place, letting you cling to walls and cliff faces, affix yourself to rocks in a rushing stream, or dangle from trees, all while keeping your primary hands free. If both your secondary hands are free, you can use an action to anchor yourself to a surface of your choice. While anchored, Your move speed becomes 0, and you have advantage on checks and saving throws against spells, attacks, actions, or effects which would move you from your place.
You automatically detach from a surface if you are moved, or if you use a bonus action to willingly detach yourself.
Slippery Traveler
You are accustomed to traversing hazardous, slicked terrain. You ignore difficult terrain in Swampland and Underdark environments.
Tail Drop
When faced with a precarious situation, you can use a reaction to detach your tail and escape from danger. You can benefit from one of the following effects.
- When you are reduced to 0 hitpoints by an attack, you use your reaction to instead take half of the attack’s damage.
- When you gain the grappled or restrained conditions, you can use your reaction to remove these conditions.
- When you are hit by a weapon or spell attack, you can can use your reaction to gain advantage on your next hide (stealth) action, as well as 10 ft of movement that does not provoke opportunity attacks. Creatures who witness the tail drop have disadvantage on their check to perceive you.
Once you benefit from this trait your tail needs to regrow before you can use it again. Your tail grows back after a long rest.
Languages
Your character knows at least three languages: Common, Undercommon, and Giant. Knowledge of a language means your character can communicate in it, read it, and write it.

Posted Apr 8, 2026The Caudite's speed isn't here. I hope to have this race available for my players when I run your Chasm of Kraggarum adventure, and for now I'll tell them they have a walking speed of 30f and climb speed equal to their walking speed.
