Homebrew Boxtroll Species Details

A subterranean folk, Boxtrolls can be found in every corner of the multiverse, often underneath cities and towns. They wear boxes instead of regular clothes and store anything they find in it, before bringing it back to their cavern home, and using it to build and decorate it. Boxtrolls predominantly live in large groups, often numbering in at least a hundred, but some live in solitude and hide out by themselves if they wish to try and find somewhere else to live. Boxtrolls, unlike their goblin cousins are typically pacifists and won't actively attack other species unless directly provoked. They don't hunt animals or other species, preferring living off of any food they can scavenge from the city or underground.

Your character can speak, read, and write Goblin, and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for the character.

Creature Type

You are a Fey Goblinoid creature. You are also humanoid for any checks that require you to be.

Life Span

Boxtrolls typically live up to 90-100 years, provided they don't get killed by predators or hunters before that happens

Height and Weight

Boxtrolls body shapes often differ, so their height and weight can be from 3 to 4 feet tall, and 80 to 130 pounds

As a Boxtroll, you have the following racial traits.

Unsuspecting Disguise and Armour

Cardboard Cover: 

You may take the hide action as a full action, a bonus action or as a reaction to being actively hunted or searched for, to hide in your Box.

Unnatural Armour:

Your box provides protection from damage. You have a base armor of 12 + Dex Mod, rather than the usual 10 + Dex Mod, with the downside that you cannot wear any armour except your box. 

While you're taking the hide action, you gain an additional bonus to your AC equal to your proficiency bonus until you choose to reveal yourself.

Your can store up to your carrying strength in weight, but have only with the size of a backpack.

Your box has an opening flap in the front that can fit objects no more than a foot in diameter through it. 

Your box can store other containers(flasks, pouches, bags, etc), provided they can fit through your box's opening flap.

Speed

Your walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of gray.
