Homebrew Arunite Species Details
Arunites are the creation of Arunaptra the Goddess of the Seas and Storms. Arunaptra often travels the material plain to seduce unsuspecting mortal men, but during rare occasions she will seduce women as well, almost always choosing human females. During these occasions the goddess has been know to shapeshift into both sexes, and on very rare occasions, her mortal female companions can become impregnated by the goddess’ potent essence. If the mother survives the pregnancy, and she manages to deliver the baby, an Arunite is born. Blessed by the storm goddess, their souls surge with the power of the storm that crackles with electrical energy.
Most Arunites lead troubled childhoods, never knowing their true potential until they reach adulthood. The electrical energy within them builds from infancy, laying dormant until released in uncontrolled surges sometime after puberty. They often discover their inert powers as a result of trauma or stress, which many times ends in an explosive release of energy that can be heard and felt across great distances. The surges manifest in the form of lightning, thunderous booms, and ferocious whirlwinds.
Their skin is white at birth and it fills with swirls of gray like storm clouds as they mature and their dormant power grows. Once the Arunite’s powers manifest, however, bright blue tattoo like runes appear on their bodies, and their eyes take on a soft blue glow that can only be perceived in low light.
Most Arunites do not survive to adulthood. The power that runs through them can unhinge the mind and cause mental breaks as well as take a physical toll. Only those who are the strongest of will and potent of character can wield the power of the storm. Those that do manage to bring this power under control are chaotic and unpredictable with their behavior, and they rarely exhibit tendencies towards good or evil. They are true agents of chaos, as unpredictable as the weather.
The rarity of Arunites due to their low survival rate and circumstances of their birth often leads them to the adventuring life. Their chaotic and unsettled nature drives them to be free spirited and reckless, yet they love, laugh, and live life with a feverish passion for new experiences making them a welcome addition to any adventuring party.
