Homebrew Al Karak Elam Species Details
Al Karak Elam, or "Winged Folk," are a rare species of elf with the gift of flight, having wings that are roughly twice their height in span. They are somewhat smaller than elves, averaging about 5' tall and weighing an average of about 100 lbs. Their hair is often either black or white, with some individuals having either silver or gold hair. Their eyes are most often gold or amber, with azure or emerald being somewhat uncommon. Their plumage tends toward black, white, and shades of gray, and is often patterned like various birds of prey.
Reclusive folk, little is known to common folk about them. Their numbers declined severely several generations ago, causing rumors of extinction. In recent times, however, their race has seen a steady increase in numbers, though they are still rare compared to many other humanoid species including elves.
Winged Folk are rumored to live even longer than their landbound cousins, reaching maturity at about 100 years of age and living over 1,000 years. They most often live in small, remote enclaves of 100 - 1,000 individuals, and these enclaves are often in high mountain regions, making them even less commonly seen. Rarely, however, one or two individuals might be seen in an elven or human village, or even a small city. Most commonly, these individuals will be young adventurers.
