Homebrew Corewild Echoborn Species Details

🧬 Origins and Myth

The Corewild Echoborn are not born—they are remembered. When a soul teeters at the threshold of death and memory, it may pass not into the afterlife, but into the Corewild, where the Worldheart stores all that was once cherished but forgotten. These rare beings emerge when fractures in the Binding and surges in ley resonance awaken the long-lost echoes of a name, a melody, or a dream too beloved to die.

The first known Echoborn was Rimpira Shadowsong, a half-elf bard known as Malali Thalessir in life, who perished during the Ember Spike. His soul did not fade. It was sung back into being by the whispering sea and the ancient Drowning Chains beneath Caer Thalas. He returned not as what he was, but as what the world could not bear to lose.

🌊 The Memory Made Flesh

Appearance

Corewild Echoborn shimmer like sea-glass dreams. Their features are both familiar and otherworldly—beautiful in a way that feels remembered, not observed.

  • Skin bears soft, glowing runes like sea-etched glyphs, flickering faintly in moonlight or near leylines.
  • Hair or Crest flows like ink suspended in water, dark and weightless, sometimes shifting with emotion.
  • Eyes hold echoes of old songs—when they blink, it’s as if the world exhales a forgotten truth.

Ethereal Traits

In moments of tension or resonance:

  • Their forms soften at the edges, becoming semi-translucent or wreathed in low-harmonic shimmer.

They leave behind a scentless wake, like a memory parting water or a dream retreating from light.

🌙 Dormancy and Awakening

Binding Slumber
A Corewild Echoborn exists in a state of metaphysical dormancy until something calls them back: a lost melody, a shattered glyph, or a soul desperate enough to offer a promise, memory, or truth in exchange.

Once awakened, they may retain fragments of their former identity—or forge a new one entirely.

⚖️ Role in the World

The appearance of a Corewild Echoborn is seen as both omen and grace. Their presence often signals a rupture in the Binding—or a chance to mend it. While some view them as divine messengers, others fear the cost of their resurrection.

The Price of Resurrection

To awaken an Echoborn is to ask the Corewild to remember. It may demand:

  • A sacrifice of truth (a secret told that can never be untold),
  • A surrendered memory (a loved one’s name forgotten),
  • Or a binding promise (a vow that reshapes fate).

Those who awaken an Echoborn are forever marked by their act—and may share in its consequences.

Corewild Echoborn Traits

The Corewild Echoborn are dream-wrought beings, shaped by the memory of what once was and the echoes of what could be. Though they wear the shape of mortals, their presence ripples with mythic resonance—etched with sea-born glyphs, stilled by Binding slumber, and awakened only when the world calls them back. Their traits reflect the surreal balance between memory and magic, water and whisper, life and the lingering shadow of unforgotten names.

đź”® Corewild Echoborn Traits

Born of memory rather than flesh, the Corewild Echoborn carry within them the resonance of forgotten truths and the pulse of ancient magic. Their traits reflect both the echo of their origin and the quiet power of the Binding they were shaped by.

  • Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.
(Your presence echoes through the Weave itself, and your intuition is sharpened by the memory of what once was.)

  • Age. Corewild Echoborn do not age conventionally. They awaken fully formed with no childhood, no aging process, and no true past—only the lingering essence of one. You do not age, and you are immune to magical aging.

  • Alignment. Most Echoborn gravitate toward Neutral alignments, guided by instinctual balance between past and present. However, the nature of the echo that gave them form—whether a noble hero or chaotic prophet—may push them toward Good, Lawful, or Chaotic paths.

  • Size. Your size is Medium. Though Echoborn have no true ancestry, they often reflect the general stature and build of their soul’s remembered form, typically within humanoid norms.

  • Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
(Whether gliding softly like a shadow or stepping with dreamlike grace, you move with the rhythm of memory itself.)

🌀 Resonant Name

Your voice carries the power of your remembered self. Once per long rest, you may cast either Detect Thoughts or Dissonant Whispers without expending a spell slot. Your spellcasting ability for this feature is Charisma.

🌊 Ley-Wrought Form

You are immune to magical aging, and you cannot be magically aged.
You can speak Aquan, and you can empathically communicate with aquatic creatures, though you cannot breathe underwater.

🔹 Corewild Flicker

Once per long rest, when reduced to 0 HP, you instead drop to 1 HP and become partially incorporeal until the end of your next turn:

  • Attacks against you are made with disadvantage.
  • You ignore difficult terrain and may move across shallow water or ley-scarred ground as if flying.
  • You leave behind no trace—no sound, no footprints.

🧠 Echoes of the Unfinished

When you are within 60 feet of a Binding Site or a leyline fracture, you can roll an Insight check (DC determined by the DM). On success, you may ask one of the following:

  • “What memory lingers here?” (you receive a vision or echo)
  • “Who touched this place before me?” (you hear a name or emotional imprint)
  • “What binds this site?” (you sense a glyph, chain, or song fragment)

You may use this ability proficiently even if you lack proficiency in Insight. This can be used only once per site.
