Homebrew Ya'dred Species Details
Myths and legend tell of the Ya'dred, sometimes known as abominable snow men.
Furry Protectors
The Ya'dred are adapted to live in cold climates and are almost completely covered in thick fur. Only their hands, feet and mouths are bare skinned. If they wear clothes, they can almost pass as chubby humans, but the fur around their eyes is always a giveaway. Their fur is mostly coloured white or a very light gray, which makes it an almost perfect camouflage for their natural habitat.
Everything for the Clan
Ya'dred live in small clans of up to 50 of them. They are natural hunters and very adapted to their surroundings, most prey does not see them before they are already in the hunter's grasp. If they have contact with other races, they are very cautious, never letting anyone live with them for to long. Many of the clans are also very territorial, often fighting, if another is to step foot into their territory. Very few Ya'dred have wandered beyond their homeland and tried to make peace with the world, but if they do so, they are eager learners, but most often lack the patience to bring their studies to a finish.
The Icy Highlands
The natural homeland of the Ya'dred is in the icy north, most often in mountain ranges, that are covered in snow all year long. Since their homes are so far from most civilizations, they are still quite a mystery to most other races. The Ya'dred prefer it that way, living among themselves is what they know and what they will protect. If someone gets lost in their mountains, they will help, but only until no more help is needed. After that, they are quick in sending the strange away.
Living in these conditions made them sturdy and they do not often get sick. But life in the cold is also hard and very energy consuming. Most Ya'dred do not live very long lives, although in a more temperate climate and in civilization they can live as long as any human. Since their lives are cut short, young Ya'dred come of age at around 15 years of age, when they go on their first hunt. Women and Men both go hunting and share the child care and education equally. Other than slightly larger breasts there is no difference between female and male Ya'dred, which can seem disturbing to outsiders.
