Homebrew Treefolk Species Details
I was wondering through the woods late at night when off in the distance I saw some lights. Once I had arrived where they were taking me I found what seemed like a large campground in the densest parts of the forest when the trees started to move.
George Siedman - Wandering Through the Forests
Treefolk rarely make themselves known to the likes of man, and when they do they are soft-spoken and calm. Over their lifespan, the Treefolk have mastered the art of patience.
A Woody Appearance
With their barky texture and wooden features, it is hard for the Treefolk to blend into town and village life. Choosing instead to remain secluded in the forests where they were born they have a natural ability to blend in with the foliage and keep their presence unknown.
The Treefolk also come in all shapes and sizes. Just like the trees that give their race its name the Treefolk are varied and adapt to their region, found anywhere that trees can be found their coloration helps them blend into their original home.
Timeless and Ageless
The Treefolk are an old race; some are old enough that they don't remember the first couple hundred years of their lives. One thing they can remember is the time before man when their lives were truly limitless. The Treefolk don't suffer from physical aging but can still fall victim to diseases and physical harm, making them still mortal.
Because of their longevity, it will usually take form in one of two ways; either the Treefolk will become more resilient to the elements, such as developing a thicker bark, or they will spend their time pondering life's mysteries.
Hidden From the Common Folk
The Treefolk live quiet lives in the hearts of the forests, very rarely seen by outsiders only the elves know that they truly exist outside of the form of mythologies.
When a Treefolk does choose to leave its home forest they usually become druids or priests of natural deities, traveling and promoting natural growth and healing by being close to nature.
Unlikely Adventurers
The Treefolk generally will stay in one place and make their home with those who came before, but one out of every couple hundred will choose to become an adventurer looking to start a new home and create another great magical forest.
Naming Conventions
Treefolk's names aren't pronounceable in the common tounges.
Because of this, they will usually choose elven names, as they have the closest relationship out of all of the races, but they will not distinguish between male or female naming conventions.

Treefolk will usually reach maturity after their first twenty years but are still viewed as young and naive by their elders until around their two hundredth birthday.
After this milestone, their age becomes increasingly less significant; each Treefolk will choose to enter their last stage of life and literally "put down their roots" once they have found the spot where they want to spend the rest of their lives.
Alignment

Darkvision
Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Keen Senses
You have proficiency in the Perception skill.
Fey Ancestry
You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.
Trance
Just like Elves, Treefolk don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and Sylvan. Some Treefolk with high intelligence scores will also take their time to learn either Elvish or Druidic.
