Physical Description
The Con'Queros are a species of horned, slender, carnivorous saurian humanoids that have evolved from horned theropods. Their scaled skin is lumpy and rough and can be colored with vivid or drab hues. Their scales can also be uniform in color or patterned in various styles. Their teeth are sharp, long, and slender, built for slicing lacerations into meat. Their hands are tipped in sturdy claws that are better suited to digging than hooking into meat, and the claws on their feet are built for gripping into the ground, which lends help to their great running speed. Their long legs and tails support robust muscles that are also well suited for running. When push comes to shove, few can match the speed of a Con'Queros on foot.
Background
The word Con'Queros is derived from the Spanish word for horned and from the word conqueror and are based on Carnotaurus bonaparte. Their culture and society is similar to the Spanish empire. Their society has a vast army and colonies spanning multiple countries and continents in the world they inhabit. While the Con'Queros empire has a vast army of volunteers, many in Con'Queros society concern themselves with creating art and cooking foods. Con'Queros are ravenous and can put away more food than their lithe frames would imply. This is due to their fast metabolism. For a Con'Queros, there is nothing more important than family. Con'Queros will have vast family gatherings consisting of upwards of 30 members of their family of all age groups. They will take it very personally if a member of the family neglects to attend these gatherings.
Courtship and Reproduction
Con'Queros are very open when it comes to romantic relationships before marriage. While frequently entering into and leaving relationships is looked down upon in Con'Queros culture, it is generally accepted that picking "the right one" takes time and practice. The courtship process will most often involve the sharing of foods, spending quality time with the object of their affections, wearing bright clothes when with them, or adorning oneself with gleaming gemstones to show off one's wealth to display interest. Con'Queros marriage is a very important cultural practice for them as it involves not only the marriage of the 2 individuals, but the symbolic marriage of the 2 families. As such, in choosing a long-term relationship it is doubly important that there not be any bad blood between the 2 families before the marriage is finalized. Further, members of Con'queros society do not look down on same-sex couplings, as how well the families get along is more important to them than who brought the families together. The marriage ceremony itself often lasts all day and ends with the new couple leaving on a week-long nuptial trip.
The Empire
The Con'Queros empire is vast and spans multiple colonies. It was spread through the use of their vast ground and naval armies. With their use, they laid waste to all that opposed them. The Con'Queros began expanding after exhausting much of the resources of their homelands. It began with exploration, simply looking for new lands to settle. The Con'Queros did not sally out seeking conflict, but when the Con'Queros began to see the differences in themselves and in their neighbors, and when they need began to eat into the resources of other species and cultures, conflict was inevitable. The Con'Queros have made great innovations in the area of naval combat and warfare, which they have used to great effect on their opposition. Any who didn't step aside were either absorbed into the empire's colonies or were wiped out. Engaging the Con'Queros in a prolonged battle is difficult. For not only are Con'Queros tough combatants renown for their speed and ferocity, for every casualty the Con'Queros inflict upon their enemies, they gain a great deal of meat. While the empire's expansion has created a great deal of strife and conflict, it has also been the catalyst for many discoveries and inventions within Con'Queros society. Many within the empire question whether these benefits are worth the blood it took to get them, however, and expansion of the empire has all but ceased due in part to these dissenters' compassion and hope for cooperation over subjugation.
Religion
The Con'Queros are a very religious people. They have a monotheistic faith system in which they worship their deity, Grandora, or the Great Runner. Grandora symbolizes freedom and the importance of living in the moment. Most homes within the Empire have the Great Runner depicted in one form or another and are Con'queros citizens very vocal about their faith. Many Con'Queros will also wear proof of their faith in the form of religious iconography.
