Homebrew Wildmarked Species Details

Cursed by the primal forces of nature, the Wildmarked are not druids by training or tradition — they are vessels of wild magic, chosen against their will. Every time they call upon their power, they drift further from humanity and deeper into feral instinct.

Wildmarked Traits

This curse is not a gift. It is a slow transformation — one that asks not if you’ll lose yourself to it, but when.

Cursed Wild Shape

You can Wild Shape into a CR 1/4 beast (no flying or swimming speed) once per long rest, even if you are not a druid. At 3rd level, you can do this twice per long rest. At 5th level, three times.

When you use this trait:
- You gain 1 Ferality Point.
- Your maximum hit points are reduced by 1d4 until your next long rest.

If you are a druid, you must use this version of Wild Shape instead of the standard one.

Ferality Points

Each time you use Cursed Wild Shape, you gain 1 Ferality Point. These points represent the creeping loss of your humanity.

Ferality Points can only be removed by:
- Completing a long rest in a sacred natural location (DM's discretion)
- A Remove Curse spell
- A ritual cleansing tied to your curse or backstory

Ferality Effects:
- 3+ Points: You develop visible animal traits—disadvantages on Persuasion checks with humanoids, but advantages with beasts.
- 6+ Points: You must succeed on a DC 10 Wisdom saving throw to revert from Wild Shape.
- 10+ Points: You can no longer speak Common while in beast form and must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom save to revert.

Your DM may adjust or expand the effects depending on your transformation path.

Beastbound Senses

You have an innate connection to beasts and the natural world.

- You have advantage on Wisdom (Animal Handling) checks.
- You can communicate simple emotions, intentions, and feelings with beasts through gestures, body language, and instinctual sounds. This does not allow for full conversations, but animals generally understand your intent.

Beasts may react with fear, reverence, or curiosity when they sense the curse within you.

Instinct Rejection

You were never meant for cities. Artificial environments unsettle your primal senses.

While in towns, cities, or other heavily artificial or unnatural environments, you have disadvantage on saving throws against the Charmed condition and similar magical effects that influence your emotions or decisions (such as calm emotions, suggestion, or dominate person).

Your cursed instincts make it harder to suppress your animal urges in civilized places.

Instinctive Adaptation

  • You gain proficiency in Perception and Nature, or Survival

  • While you are not wearing armor, your Armor Class equals 13 + your Dexterity modifier. Your skin may become rougher, slightly furred, or resistant to slashing winds.

  • You know the Druidcraft cantrip. Your spellcasting ability for this spell is Wisdom. The forest answers your call with rustling leaves, blooming petals, or shifting weather.

Spirit-Warped Insight

Your cursed bond with primal forces sharpens your awareness and intuition.

You gain a +2 bonus to your Wisdom or Dexterity score, up to a maximum of 20.

Additionally, you can add your Wisdom modifier to Intelligence (Nature) checks if you do not already.
