Homebrew Yeha Species Details
The stranger tilted his metallic head, tipping his wide-brimmed leather hat jovially.
"You look mighty lost there, partner," he joked, sounding as if he was struggling to keep laughter out of his voice. "Need any help, or is this some sort of game your folk like to play?"
"Ah, no," I responded, slightly embarrassed at my predicament. "I am lost. Everything here looks exactly the same."
"The same?" The stranger guffawed, incredulous. "Seems to me as if you don't know what you're talking about. Trust me, boy, when I tell ya that this place ain't what it looks like."
- Dorian Dovas, A Practical Guide to the Unknown
Equipped with an otherworldly view of their surroundings and a natural lust for adventure, the Yeha are an infamous group of nomads that leap from one dimension to the other as if it were nothing. Buoyed by the divine blood that flows through them, no amount of hardship or opposition can keep the Yeha from their adventures.
Divine Beginnings
After Eternity's War, the great god Oam's head exploded into a million glittering peices, each chunk of divine brain falling down into the dimensions floating endlessly inside the Rift. As they all held slivers of power almost unfathomable to the mortal mind, it didn't take long for the brain to begin mingling with the essence of the worlds around them. Some of the brain blossomed into vast conglomerates of noble, highly intelligent peoples that became loved and respected in the dimensions they soon learned to call home. Others, however... did not have the same intellectual, sophisticated upbringing.
A chunk of Oam's brain landed in a small, previously uncharted dimension that was devoid entirely of any form of magic. The offspring of Oam flung into this dimension found themselves stranded on a long, dusty spit of land with nothing but sand, rocks, and occasionally bushes as far as the eye could see. Confused and disoriented, the newly-formed caravan began to wander and explore, eventually meeting native peoples and even becoming adjusted to this strange world they had found themselves in. These nomads identified themselves as the Yeha, a word lovingly drawn from the slang of their new dimension. Despite adopting the mannerisms of the people they lived with, the Yeha still retained their divine heritage through ther incredible psychonic capabilities and their lust for exploration. In recent years, the Yeha have rediscovered their dimension-hopping abilities and are slowly making their way to every dimension they can get their hands on, overjoyed at finally being able to wander like they were intended to.
Peculiar Folk
Even from first glance, it is clear that the Yeha are inherently alien. Though they are humanoid in shape, their "skin" appears to be made of polished metal resembling either bronze, brass, or copper. Despite looking rigid, their skin in actually quite soft and is always warm to the touch. Nearing the end of their extremities, the metallic hue of their skin fades into any sort of color imaginable, flecked with bits of silver to resemble stars. Yeha have no facial features save a humanoid mouth that disappears into their faces when not in use. Because they can speak without using their mouths, Yeha voices can still be traced back to them but often seem to originate from nowhere. Wisps of plasma-like smoke in the same silver-flecked hue as their extremities billows off their heads like flames. Some Yeha even have "beards" of this plasma roiling on their chins. Yeha bodies are actually quite vulnerable, so many Yeha prefer to build themselves "exoskeletons" made of scavenged metal to protect themselves. For whatever reason, Yeha also have much larger hands than most other races. Yeha speak in a strange, twangy accent, and their speech is peppered with many odd slang expressions. They prefer to dress in a manner that reflects their home dimension, and are ridiculously fond of hats and bandanas.
Psychonic Savants
Despite initial appearances, the Yeha are actually startlingly brilliant and posess incredible psychonic abilities granted to them through their divine heritage. Yeha are adept at communicating with each other telepathically and can carry conversations with each other over entirely different dimensions. Yeha can also talk to other races in this manner, though it is more difficult due to the fact that some races aren't as mentally awakened as the Yeha. The Yeha even posess minor mind reading capabilities and can get glimpses into the thoughts of others if in direct physical contact with them. They usually stay out of the minds of their companions, however, as the Yeha consider it rude to stalk through the thoughts of others for no good reason. Because of their close connection with the minds of others, Yeha are usually very intuitive and can tell if creatures are telling the truth or not simply by reading their mental vibrations.
Yeha Names
Yeha usually follow the naming conventions of the culture they adopted in their home dimension. These names bear a striking resemblance to human names but there is simply no way that is how they got them, right?
