Homebrew Akela (Anthro-Canine) Species Details

In the world of Yeria, the Akela are a race as old as dragons, and have direct relation to an ancient dragon, as they were brought up as his servants. They are dog like humanoids with paws for feet, but fingered hands. Despite many human-like characteristics, the Akela more closely resemble dogs. Their faces are identical in nature to those of dogs, and their entire bodies are covered in fur, hair, or some combination, though the skin underneath does have a faint appearance of being scaled, like a dragons. As there are different breeds of dog, there are also breeds of Akela, and as such they can look as different as any two dogs you would see on the street. The Akela are longstanding servants of man, though now many of their young choose to venture out as their servitude has been re-branded into "employment," and they may leave "freely." Due to their initial "employment," Akela's gain a proficiency in checks related to their master's business (I.E. an Akela who served a sailor would gain proficiency in nautical related checks). Akela's generally behave with human-like characteristics, such as walking on their hind paws, but do have some that lend themselves to canines. At full speed, they run on all fours, and also lick their wounds, and while those aren't their only dog-like characteristics, those tend to be true among the majority of the race.
