Homebrew Arynne Species Details
Arynne is a race of humanoid creatures that are similar to humans, though upon closer inspection are quite different. They tend to live in complicated cavern systems, and have a very set caste system where the lower classes live closer to the cavern entances, and the more elite living in the deep heart of the caves, usually behind their manmade waterfalls that act as their royal palaces.
Arynne have greyish blueish skin that ranges in tones, but generally the lower classes have a lighter grey blue skin and the upper classes have a darker grey, deep blue skin. It is common to have large patches of golden color in their skin, often thought to be from the blessing of their goddess Laine. Because of the lack of light in the caverns, their eyes tend to be pitch black, and they tend to be carnivorous, with thin, prickly teeth that are definitely not human-like. Their hair tend to be of a golden color. They are often lean and despite how cold it can get, they do not have very much fat to insulate themselves. They often have tall legs, with long, spindly fingers, thin necks, and very hard lines in their figure and face. While many would find them offputting, many find that they are actually very graceful in an otherwordly sense, though much, much more different than the kind of otherworldy elves are like.
Arynne also tend to be religious, with five main gods that are worshipped belowground. Thaine, the god of defense and protection, is represented by a circular sheild. Svayne, the goddess of attack and war, is represented by three slash marks. Kaine, the god of darkness and secrecy, is represented by two fingers forming an X, Laine, the goddess of minerals, gold, and richness, is represented by a gold laurel. Pheyne, the goddess of the hunt, survival, and death, is represented by a black skull.
Social status and their value in society is very important to the Arynnes, but they find the game of deceit and manipulation for power fun as well. They are ruled by a Queen and her King Consort, and they have children who fight to take the throne with their cousins, the nieces and nephews of the Queen. When Arynnes become teens, they are apprenticed in jobs, many being drafted to be part of the Royal Guard, many being drafted for different hunting griups that venture out to provide meat from the outside outside, and few become clerics, and those seem to be the most important positions not taken by the nobles. Trade is made by the nobles, and often form alliances with other foreign nobles. When people take part of their apprenticeship, very rarely they will go take another job. The children of nobles become well versed in a multitude of hustiry and literature, and either inherit the trading business or be groomed to be a spouse for another noble. The lowest class jobs are the miners, who mine in mine shafts that are far away from the rest of their society.
Arynne tend to have names that are broken by apostraphes. Arynne are given a one syllable name upon birth, which is to be completed when growing up. Upon reaching adulthood, Arynnes are given the second part of their name, and the combination of syllables each have different meanings that are highly symbolic. Female names tend to be more flowy and graceful, while male names tend to have harder consants.
Male name examples: Ka' Roushke, Phe' Wyske, Zy' Rouinne, Le' Kaphhen, Thrun' Kychik
Female name examples: Lei' Svelle, Kai' Wynnthra, Zar' Amelle, Ry' Syrra, Hai' Llydia
Arynne are mostly independent, and collaborate with many nations and foreigners in trade, especially since they specialize in mining, though are also well-known for their skills in diplomacy as well. They are not quick to trust others, and stay close to their communities.
Arynne tend to marry to far-away diplomats and nobles, and tend to be alone in a world much more foreign than what they know. Yet this seems to drive them to put their faith and culture even further embedded into their children, to teach them both worlds and about their heritage. Because of this, many Arynnes try to keep their Arynnian naming conventions for their children, including only giving them the rest of their name once they reach adulthood.
