Homebrew Wickermen Species Details

The Wickermen are an ancient species said to have existed since the earliest days of candles and magic users sharing the same space. Over time, working by candlelight became a burden for spellcasters—so a question arose: what if the candles could light themselves, clean up after themselves, and move at a spoken word rather than a wave of the hand? With efficiency in mind, the Wickermen were born.

Ranging from small to medium size, these beings are easily recognized by their waxy bodies and the fungal-like growth of candles sprouting constantly from their shoulders and heads. These candles burn continuously throughout the Wickermens lives, their melted wax dripping onto the body, gradually increasing its mass. Typically, this constant growth grows cumbersome once Wickermen reach the point of being considered a "large" creature.

What truly animates them, however, are the ancient runes carved into their waxen forms—glowing with magical light, often in shades of orange. Wickermen are considered ageless until the wax from their own flames accumulates enough to fix their bodies in place. Once immobilized, their candles stop growing, and they perish when the final flame melts down to the skull. Often times, however, Wickermen Prolong their own lifespans by shaving off wax to avoid this fate.

The candles on your head illuminate the world around you, producing bright light for 5 ft. at all times, and a further 5 ft. of dim light.

Waxy Composition

Due to your waxy composition, you are prone to melting at a much lower temperature than the average sentient being, and much quicker too. You are vulnerable to fire-damage.

Accumulation

During a long rest you can choose to let your wax grow you into a large creature, while in this form you have disadvantage on dexterity saves and advantage on magical attacks. you can choose to take a short rest at anytime, and spend that time shaving off the extra wax to become normal or small again.
