Homebrew Changeling Mimic Species Details
It stands atop two digitigrade legs with a long, amorphous tail, striding forward as if its bottom half is moving all on its own the legs splitting apart and coming back together like the recoil of a stretched rubber band; all the while the top doesn't seem to stir from the movement, at all.
Its upper body looking not unlike an elf's in form and function, yet with clear differences. Its hands are wider, with much longer, razor-sharp fingers. It's head, while more bulbous, holds a face with two pairs of glowing, orange eyes. All over, rather than semi-rigid skin, is what appears to be a living, liquid ooze, ebbing and flowing all across it's body, and within its mouth, two rows of of what can be best be described as shark's teeth.
Changeling Mimic Traits
The unnatural makeup of an abomination.Proficiencies
Given its purposeful design, the Changeling Mimic could be proficient two of the following Skills:
Stealth, Performance, Persuasion, Deception
Size
With its ever-changing appearance, it's hard to tell what size the Changeling Mimic naturally is, but it appears to fluctuate mostly between Small and Medium.
Languages
Having been surrounded by many other abominations as well as its creator, herself, the Changeling Mimic has picked up Common as well as one of the following languages:
Primordial, Undercommon, Abyssal, Elvish
Timeless Form
Much like the mimics it hails from, the Changeling Mimic does not appear to age, yet unlike said mimics, it does not grow in size, either.
For all intents and purposes, it would appear as though the Changeling Mimic is functionally immortal.
Vision
Pulling from it's mimic DNA, the Changeling Mimic has Blindsight up to 30', but from there its vision is average, just like its changeling DNA.
Speed
Being structured similarly to a natural mimic, the Changeling Mimic is able to adapt its movement to many styles. As such it holds a Walking, Burrowing, Climbing, and Swimming speed that are all 35' if Medium in size and 25' if Small in size.
Ability Scores
Due to its design, the Changeling Mimic receives the following Ability Score benefits:
+2 CHA, +1 DEX
Grappler
Due to its inherited mimic traits, the Changeling Mimic gains a natural Advantage in its attempts to Grapple.
Evolved Mimicry
The true genius behind the mad wizard's effort is seen in the Changeling Mimic's ability to change into both objects and creatures. So long as the object or creature is only up to one size smaller or larger, the Changeling Mimic can copy its physical appearance.
When taking the form of an object, the player's character retains their health, conditions, and all their ability scores, but cannot speak, cast spells, activate other abilities, or take advantage of skill checks (unless the object normally could).
When taking the form of another creature, the player's character retains all their own stats and abilities, so long as the creature they turned into is capable of utilizing them (i.e. a snake cannot speak, nor does it have hands to cast somatic spells), but the character does not gain any abilities from simply mimicking the creature's form (i.e. turning into what appears to be an eagle does not grant the character the ability to fly)
When taking another's form or the form of an object, the player must make a d20 roll, adding their Deception Skill bonus to the roll. The result is the Perception roll needed for someone to tell you are not who or what you appear to be.
This ability can do used any number of times a day, but requires a 1min cooldown between form changes.
Amorphous
Given the Changeling Mimic's semi-fluid nature, it has the ability to fit into/through spaces up to one size smaller than its designated size.
