Homebrew Dicyferani Species Details
Disclaimers: This is primarily designed for my own homebrew campaign: Tales of Sylvan (Revised)//Tales of Sylvan (Simplified)//Tales of Sylvan: Rise of 7 Evil Lords on Roll20. If you think this species is adaptable to your own campaign/character, feel free to use and modify accordingly to the setting.Due to the nature of this species, your character must be True Neutral. Your character will always balance between good and evil, and tend to resolve in non-violence means that result in the least harm to parties involved. Though the party's collective decision may not be your ideal resolution, you tend to agree with what the rest of the party decides simply the doctrine is that you live in peace and harmony with your people or peers. Links are removed so as to be published accordingly to the rules. Portrait avatar is created with the AI assist of Copilot from Edge, the image is then manually cropped and modified to fit closer to the design by me.
Dicyferani is a nomadic group of people that roams all over Sylvan. In their codes, they are encouraged to take in orphans as their own, hence, they are of a wide variety of races. They collectively believe in only one god as they call The Creator. They believe The Creator has then created many other gods and all living things. They see believing in other gods as a mean to tip into powers granted by The Creator; The Creator gives part of the power to the other gods, through them, those powers manifest on this plane via mortals like themselves. They are folks of many talents since they have to roam around a lot. They are also well known by their way of passing down history verbally. Dicyferani are likely to offer help to strangers as their codes suggest by helping others, true happiness shall descend to this plane. They learn to embrace both good and evil as they are since they are all fragments of The Creator.
<The Doctrine of Dicyferani>:
1. We accept The Creator as the creator of our world;
2. In its name, we accept all orphans of our world as our people;
3. In its name, we share all our knowledge from older generations to newer generations, extending the lifeline;
4. In its name, we spare all our mortal enemies;
5. In its name, we live in peace with all beings;
6. In its name, we do our best every day so as to be thankful to the lives we have to consume as food;
7. In its name, we absolve the sins and crimes non-dicyferani.
Creating Your Character
At 1st level, you choose whether your character is a member of the human race or of a fantastical race. If you select a fantastical race, follow these additional rules during character creation.
Ability Score Increases
When determining your character’s ability scores, you may choose to increase by 1 in 4 different scores.
Languages
Your character can speak, read, and write Common and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for the character. The Player’s Handbook offers a list of languages to choose from. The DM is free to modify that list for a campaign.
Creature Type
Every creature in D&D, including each player character, has a special tag in the rules that identifies the type of creature they are. Most player characters are of the Humanoid type. A race tells you what your character’s creature type is.
Here’s a list of the game’s creature types in alphabetical order: Aberration, Beast, Celestial, Construct, Dragon, Elemental, Fey, Fiend, Giant, Humanoid, Monstrosity, Ooze, Plant, Undead. These types don’t have rules themselves, but some rules in the game affect creatures of certain types in different ways. For example, the cure wounds spell doesn’t work on a Construct or an Undead.
Life Span
The typical life span of a player character in the D&D multiverse is about a century, assuming the character doesn’t meet a violent end on an adventure. Members of some races, such as dwarves and elves, can live for centuries. If typical members of a race can live longer than a century, that fact is mentioned in the race’s description. Since this particular species consists of many other species, you can look up any species your character is originated as a reference and use it to be a reference.
Height and Weight
Player characters, regardless of race, typically fall into the same ranges of height and weight that humans have in our world. If you’d like to determine your character’s height or weight randomly, consult the Random Height and Weight table in the Player’s Handbook, and choose the row in the table that best represents the build you imagine for your character.
Dicyferani Traits
As a dicyferani, you have the following racial traits.Creature Type
You are a Humanoid.
Size
Depending on your actual species, you can be Small/Medium/Large.
Speed
Your walking speed is 35 feet. Simply your nomad living lifestyle prepares you better to be always walking a bit faster than others. (If your actual species has other speed, please consult your DM).
Children of the Creator
You can recall a reservoir of verbal and on-display experiences passed down from generations. Whenever you finish a long rest, you gain proficiency in one skill of your choice and with one weapon or tool of your choice, selected from the Player’s Handbook, as you momentarily focus on recalling all of those knowledge passed down to you by recitation and repeated demonstrations. These proficiencies last until the end of your next long rest.
Peaceful Nature
From daily teaching to daily training, dicyferani simply do not kill. Since you are accepted into their society, you have practiced your entire life the art of "not killing". Whatever weapons or spells you use/cast, you always precisely know and manipulate the force to a knock out instead of a killing blow. Even the most talented warrior/sorcerer cannot do what dicyferani have practiced their entire life, easily.
Soothing Radiance
Perhaps there is a deity called The Creator? Somehow, all creatures do not fight dicyferani unless they are the final target.
Other than that, your presence is such a pleasant to any being you are in contact with, you have Advantage on Persuasion rolls as long as you are touching the target.
In addition, if you are convincing a hostile target to stop its aggression while touching it, it gains Disadvantage against your Rolls.
Other Traits (Please consult DM)
Since dicyferani take in orphans of every possible species, if your original species has vision-related traits, you may include those. Every other type of species traits is not passed down to you. The doctrine of dicyferani somehow makes those traits disappear.
