Homebrew Aequorian Species Details

Aequorians can inhabit almost any body of water, as long as it is sufficiently large. There are multiple types of Aeqorians, each uniquely suited to the body of water they hatched in. Aeqorians need to be fully submerged in water to get the benefits of long rest. Due to the lack of unified culture, Aeqorians are extremely diverse in belief and alignment, though they are often chaotic aligned. Aeqorians typically have fins along their spines and where ears should be, webbed hands and feet, and smooth rubbery skin, though they typically have other traits determined by parentage and where they hatched. Regardless of size, they can easily fit through gaps as narrow as 5 inches, though Abyssal Aeqorians can fit through gaps as narrow as 2 inches.

There are three main types of Aeqorian, dependent on where they hatched. The three main Aeqorian types are described below.

Abyssal

This type of Aeqorian hatched either in an underwater cave, or more than 1,800 feet below the surface. Due to the darkness of the waters they hatched in, Abyssal Aeqorians not only have darkvision, but also blindsight. Abyssal Aeqorians are carnivorous. Abyssal Aeqorians often have tenticle-like hair, thin bodies, larger fins, squid-like beaks, and small tendrils along their body ending in yellow bioluminescent bulbs. Their skin is usually dark red, blue, or green, though other colors have been observed. This type of Aeqorian are resistant to cold damage, but are vulnerable to radiant damage.

Glacial

Glacial Aeqorians hatched in water that is below 35 degrees Fahrenheit, or about 2 degrees Celsius. Due to the scarcity of food in the waters they hatched in, Glacial Aeqorians are omnivorous. Glacial Aeqorians typically have hair resembling the tendrils of a jellyfish, conical teeth, larger bodies, and small tendrils along their body ending in orange bioluminescent bulbs. Their skin is usually pale, either a pale yellow, blue, or green, though other colors have been observed. This type of Aeqorian is resistant to cold damage, but are vulnerable to fire damage.

Equatorial

Equatorial Aeqorians hatched in water above 59 degrees Fahrenheit, or 15 degrees Celsius. Due to the warmth and brightness of waters they hatched in, Equatorial Aeqorians are omnivorous. Equatorial Aeqorians typically have hair resembling the tendrils of an anemone, flat teeth, thin bodies, sharp claws, and small tendrils along their body ending in red bioluminescent bulbs. Their skin is usually vibrant, either a bright purple, blue, or green, though other colors have been observed. This type of Aeqorian is resistant to fire damage, but are vulnerable to cold damage.

Aequorian Types

When you reach character levels 3 and 5, you learn a higher-level spell, as shown on the table. You always have that spell prepared. You can cast it once without a spell slot, and you regain the ability to cast it in that way when you finish a Long Rest. You can also cast the spell using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level.
