Homebrew Watcher Species Details

Watchers live to watch, and sometimes interfere, but only Runaways, defined by their reddish purple tint, harm the creatures they have been set to watch

Living in the void

They have adapted to the void, thriving in complete darkness. As such, they see in it with no problems, but they have trouble with bright lights. Another problem is they adapted to breath void air, not oxygen, so they must take care to not run out of air. They are excellent flyers as a result of practicing for at least 3,000 years

A Timeless Perspective

Watchers can live for centuries, even eons, but they take great care to not overcrowd the void. They have almost no fear, having lived away from danger, but they still value their lives

Hidden Void

The void kills almost all who enter, those who survive never leave. Most earthly races only have guesses as to what it looks like. As such, they are rarely attacked or killed

Protectors

Watchers are considered deities, saving those in times of need, but they are not perfect. They are rarely spotted, as such, they have almost no followers, only a few, and as such barely any godly power

Watcher Names

Watcher's names often have at least one X in them. Nobody knows where this came from, but all they know is it is a sacred tradition, never to be disturbed. To have a name with no X is to be cursed. They have no name structure beyond this

Watchers are perfectly adapted to live in the void, evolving since they had been there

Your Dexterity score increases by 2.

Age

Watchers reach a mature age at around 3,000 years old, living to be around an eon. the oldest a watcher ever lived was 2 eons

Size

Watchers range from under 7 to over 8 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Large.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 35 feet.

Darkvision

Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Voidwalker

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Trance

Watchers don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 1 hour a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Galactic. Galactic is tough, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Galactic literature is rich and varied, and their symbols and strings of words are famous among other races. Many wizards learn the language to help with pronunciation, as Galactic is spoken close to spells
