Homebrew Death Eater Species Details

The Death Eaters are a race born from the lingering echoes of death and despair, perhaps originating from planes where life struggles against overwhelming decay, or from ancient bloodlines tainted by powerful necromantic rituals. Their appearance often reflects their grim heritage: gaunt features, pale or ashen skin, eyes that seem to absorb light, and an aura of chilling stillness.

They are often misunderstood and feared, their very presence sometimes causing discomfort or unease in others. Some Death Eaters embrace their dark nature, becoming reapers, necromancers, or assassins, while others strive to overcome their innate inclinations, seeking to understand or even protect the sanctity of life, despite their heritage. Regardless of their path, they carry a deep, often unsettling, connection to the cycle of life and death.

Death Eater Traits

Your Death Eater character has an assortment of inborn abilities, part of their grim heritage.

Siphon life

  • When you hit a creature with a melee attack, you can use this feature to drain a small amount of its life force. The target takes an additional 1d4 necrotic damage, and you regain hit points equal to the necrotic damage dealt. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. The damage increases to 1d6 at 6th level, 1d8 at 11th level, and 1d10 at 16th level.

Whispers of the Grave

You have proficiency in the Intimidation skill.

Necrotic Resistance

You have resistance to necrotic damage

Dreadful presence

As an action, you can unleash a chilling aura of fear. Each creature of your choice within 10 feet of you that can see or hear you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or be frightened of you until the end of your next turn. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
