Homebrew Brownie Species Details

Brownies are tiny fey creatures, rarely exceeding 2 feet in height, with earth-toned hair and bright, expressive eyes. Their attire often consists of natural materials like leaves, bark, and woven fibers, reflecting their deep connection to the forests and meadows they inhabit.

Renowned for their secretive and benevolent nature, brownies often dwell in rural areas, choosing to live unnoticed among other races. They are known to perform household chores and repairs during the night, asking for little more than a bowl of cream or a piece of cake in return. However, they are sensitive to recognition; openly acknowledging a brownie’s presence may cause them to depart permanently.

In addition to their domestic tendencies, brownies possess innate magical abilities, often favoring spells that allow them to remain unseen or to manipulate their environment subtly. Their magic is an extension of their desire to assist and protect without drawing attention to themselves.

Brownie society is typically unstructured, with individuals or small family units living independently. They hold a deep respect for nature and often act as guardians of the natural world, ensuring that the balance of their environment is maintained.

The brownie race includes several distinct subraces, each with unique characteristics:

  • Buckawn: Reclusive and stealthy, Buckawns are forest dwellers who excel in archery and prefer solitude.

  • Dobie: Household brownies who take pride in domestic tasks, Dobies are known for their craftsmanship and magical aptitude in aiding with chores.

  • Killmoulis: Recognizable by their large noses and mouths, Killmoulises are helpful in kitchens and mills, possessing hearty appetites and a knack for culinary arts.

  • Quickling: Swift and mischievous, Quicklings are known for their incredible speed and love of pranks, often darting unseen through the forests.

Together, these subraces embody the diverse ways in which brownies interact with the world, always aiming to assist and protect in their unique manners.
