Homebrew Desert Frogfolk Species Details

THIS IS NONCORE D&D MATERIAL

These game mechanics are usable in your campaign if your DM allows them but not refined by final game design and editing.

Desert Frogfolk are aggressive froglike humanoids found in desert biomes. They are fiercely territorial and see themselves as superior to most other creatures.

Desert-Dwelling  Amphibians. Desert Frogfolk live in dunes, towns, or cacti and prefer shade. A frogfolk hatchery is maintained in well-guarded dunes. About three months after hatching, a desert froglet takes on the shape of an adult. It takes another six to nine months for a froglet juvenile to reach maturity.

Naturally Toxic. All desert frogfolk secrete a milky substance that is harmless to them but poisonous to other creatures. A frogfolk also uses venom to poison its weapons.

Desert Frogfolk Traits

Your frogfolk character has an assortment of inborn abilities, part and parcel of frogfolk nature.

Ability Score Increases

When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. Follow this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy. The “Quick Build” section for your character’s class offers suggestions on which scores to increase. You can follow those suggestions or ignore them, but you can’t raise any of your scores above 20.

Age

Desert Frogfolk mature to adulthood in a single year, but have been known to live up to 50 years.

Alignment

As a species that focuses on survival, most desert Frogfolk lean toward neutrality, but their tempers and tendency toward holding grudges can lead some of them towards evil.

Size

Desert Frogfolk range in size from 3 feet to 5 feet tall. Your size is small or medium.

Danger Rush

Life in the desert is dangerous and you are ready when it strikes. When rolling initiative you add your proficiency bonus to your roll.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a burrowing speed of 25 feet.

Desert Born

You have advantage on constitution saving throws to avoid exhaustion from heat.

Poison Immunity

You’re immune to poison damage and the poisoned condition.

Poisonous Skin

Any creature that grapples you or otherwise comes into direct contact with your skin must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or become poisoned for 1 minute. A poisoned creature no longer in direct contact with you can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

You can also apply this poison to any weapon as a bonus action, though when you hit the poison reacts differently. The target must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or take 2d4 poison damage.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Grung.
