Homebrew Awakened Corgi Beastkin Species Details

"The world is full of smells, secrets, and snacks—why rush through it on two legs when you can sniff it properly on four?"

Blessed (or perhaps cursed) by the strange alchemy of nature, Awakened Corgi Beastkin are creatures of boundless curiosity and chaotic charm. Once ordinary dogs who stumbled into sentience—whether by mystical mushrooms, fey bargains, or sheer stubbornness—they now navigate the world with a blend of canine intuition and newfound wisdom. Their existence is a paradox: part philosopher, part mischief-maker, and entirely devoted to the pursuit of belly rubs, interesting fungi, and the perfect nap spot.

To meet an Awakened Corgi is to be disarmed—literally and figuratively. Their big, liquid eyes and perpetually wagging tails exude an aura of harmless whimsy, but beneath the fluff lies a sharp mind and an even sharper instinct for survival. They are creatures of low-stakes chaos, preferring to trip their enemies rather than fight them, to charm rather than threaten, and to solve problems with a well-timed bark instead of a blade. Yet when their friends are in danger, they reveal a surprising ferocity—short legs can still deliver a mighty bite, and a corgi’s loyalty is as unshakable as their stubbornness.

Most Awakened Corgi Beastkin gravitate toward roles that let them mediate, explore, or indulge their eccentricities. Some become druids, whispering to plants and animals like fuzzy little shamans. Others take up urban bounty hunting, using their unassuming forms to infiltrate places taller folk can’t reach. A rare few even become adventurers, not for glory or gold, but because the world is simply too full of interesting smells and poorly guarded sandwiches to ignore.

Their origins are as varied as their personalities. Some remember their past lives as pets, carrying faint echoes of a human’s voice calling them "good dog." Others were born of wild magic, their minds sparking to life in a burst of fey energy. A few, like Marzipan, owe their awakening to eldritch fungi or necrotic snacks, leaving them with prophetic dreams and a habit of licking corpses "just to check."

Despite their intelligence, Awakened Corgi Beastkin still think like dogs at heart. They forget names but remember scents forever. They see no reason not to ask a dozen questions in a row ("Who’s that? What’s that? Can I eat it?"). They believe firmly in the divine power of snacks and the importance of naps. And if you’re very lucky, they might just share their mushrooms with you—though whether those mushrooms will heal you, hallucinate you, or haunt you is anyone’s guess.

Society & Relations

Awakened Corgi Beastkin rarely form large communities—they’re more likely to adopt a group of taller humanoids (whether those humanoids asked for it or not). They get along famously with gnomes, halflings, and fey creatures, who appreciate their mischief. Dwarves tolerate them, elves find them "exhaustingly sincere," and orcs are baffled by the fact that something so small refuses to be intimidated.

Some live as urban strays, slipping between alleyways and taverns, while others seek out druidic circles or fey-touched groves. A few even serve as emotional support companions for adventuring parties, not because they were hired, but because they decided the party looked "sad and in need of a dog."

Awakened Corgi Traits

Creature Type: Humanoid (Beastkin)
Size: Small (2–3 feet tall, but somehow take up more space emotionally)
Speed: 30 ft (bipedal) / 35 ft (quadruped)
Lifespan: 50–80 years (but they don’t count the years—only the snacks)

As a Corgi, you have these special traits.

Innocent Pup Form

  • While on all fours, you can pass as a normal dog unless observed closely.
  • You can Hide in urban or forest terrain without full cover.
  • Creatures attempting an Insight check to discern your sentience have disadvantage unless they already know you’re more than a dog.

Corgi Anchor

  • When on all fours and choosing not to move, you are immovable (advantage on checks to resist being pushed, pulled, or knocked prone).
  • If a creature fails to move you (DC = 10 + your STR modifier + proficiency bonus), they fall prone.

Yapper’s Interference (Reaction)

When a creature within 5 ft moves, you can force a DEX save (DC 8 + WIS + proficiency). On a failure, they trip and fall prone. (Must be on all fours.)

Cute Advantage

  • Lick a creature within 5 ft to heal 1d4 + WIS mod HP.
  • If the target is poisoned, frightened, or charmed, they immediately reroll their save with advantage.

Herbal Drool (Passive)

If you end your turn adjacent to a creature at 0 HP, they regain 1 HP (once per creature per long rest).

Soothing Licks

Lick a creature within 5 ft to heal 1d4 + WIS mod HP

If the target is poisoned, frightened, or charmed, they immediately reroll their save with advantage.

Dimensional Tailspin

Spin in a circle for 6 seconds, opening a 5-ft portal within 60 ft (lasts until your next turn or until you stop spinning).
