Homebrew Crabbith Species Details

"Bubbling Noises"

— Crabbith Saying

These creatures have just recently risen from the depths of the ocean, and much of their culture is unknown. What is known, however, is that they came from an underwater canyon deep below the surface. They claim to have dug into the sides of the canyon to make crude burrow like dwellings.

Crabbith Traits

Your Crabbith character gains traits to help it survive the deep waters of the ocean, as well as the perils of coastal life.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age

Crabbith lifespans tend to vary by subspecies but most should reach adulthood by 10 years and they tend to live around 50 years.

Alignment

Crabbith are crabs, they are pretty chill and tend to be neutrally aligned.

Size

Crabbith adults stand 5 to 6 feet tall and average 450 pounds. Their shells account for roughly one-third of their weight. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet with a swimming speed of 30 feet.

Claws

Your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. They also do not allow you wield weapons or hold a shield. You can still perform the somatic requirement of spells by clicking them.

Tidal

You can breathe air and water, but must coat yourself in some form of a moist substance for 30 minutes at least once a day or suffer a 1 level of exhaustion the next day.

Natural Armor

Due to your shell and the shape of your body, you are ill-suited to wearing armor. Your shell provides ample protection, however; it gives you a base AC of 15 plus your Strength Modifier (your Dexterity modifier doesn’t affect this number). You gain no benefit from wearing armor, and cannot carry a shield.

Molt

As an action, you can molt shedding your old shell. This sheds any negative effects that have been applied to you and rejuvenates you. This completely cures you of any condition aside from the unconscious, blinded, frightened, or deafened conditions, heals you by 1d8 + your strength modifier, and cures 1 level of exhaustion. This action can be taken once per long rest even while incapacitated, and reduces your AC by 4 for the duration of the molt as you are left vulnerable. The molt lasts 1 hour.

Survival Instinct

You gain proficiency in the Survival skill. Tortles have finely honed survival instincts.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Aquan and Common.
