Homebrew Chrome Bloods Species Details
The Chrome Bloods are not a natural race—they are an engineered legacy. The original Chrome Line was designed during the Ashwake Conflict, when the Adamant Ring began integrating failed soldier candidates with arcano-mechanical enhancements. These early subjects were barely human—wired into survival through necessity, not vision.
That changed after the Neuroline Directive, which allowed voluntary augmentation of civilians for "strategic societal upliftment." A new generation was born, their bodies laced with genetic anchors for adaptive chrome, allowing growth-linked enhancements from childhood. These "Second-Wavers" became symbols of Imoria’s triumph over biology—human enough to relate, machine enough to endure.
Culturally, Chrome Bloods form clades, cybernetic lineage groups based on function:
- Helix Clades – scholars, analysts, thinkers.
- Aegis Clades – soldiers, guardians, peacekeepers.
- Pulse Clades – engineers, medics, technomancers.
Each clade maintains ritual software uploads—essentially encoded rites of passage—and memory vaults where ancestral experiences are stored in artificial memory cores called Legacy Nodes. While not every Chrome Blood uploads or syncs with theirs, most do during their coming of age.
They’re taught to revere the body as a platform, not a temple—optimisation is holy. Many worship Gallum not as a god, but as the First User, who gave mortality the system upgrade it never knew it needed.
Chrome Bloods Traits
Your Chrome Blood character has the following racial traits.Ability Score Increase
One of your ability scores increases by 2, and another two of your ability scores of your choice increase by 1.
Age
Chrome Bloods mature at the same rate as other humans, reaching adulthood around age 18. However, their augmented systems often delay the physical signs of aging. Most Chrome Bloods live between 120 and 150 years, with routine system maintenance and hardware upgrades extending functionality well beyond natural human limits. Some who undergo early enhancement may experience "neural desync" in late life—cognitive fragmentation caused by software-hardware divergence—though rare, it is considered a rite of passage among older clades.
Alignment
Chrome Bloods are shaped by the structured systems of Imoria, often valuing logic, efficiency, and collective function over personal impulse. Many lean toward Lawful alignments, especially those from Helix or Aegis Clades. However, individuals from Pulse Clades or those who reject clade doctrine may pursue Chaotic or Neutral paths—especially if they view augmentation as a means of personal liberation rather than control. Their moral compass varies as widely as their upgrades—some follow protocols like scripture, and others hack for their own purposes.
Size
Chrome Bloods retain the general body structure of standard humans. Most stand between 5 and 6.5 feet tall, with variations depending on clade and augmentation density. Their body mass may be heavier than average due to internal components. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Chrome Bloods move with fluid, calculated precision. Your base walking speed is 35 feet. Some augmentations may increase this, but the standard frame is optimised for stability and control rather than burst movement.
Data Splice
As a bonus action, you may interface with another creature you can touch (or see within 10 feet if you have the Ocular HUD). Choose one mode for 1 minute:
Overclock (Self Only): You gain +2 to initiative and may make one additional weapon attack (no action required) once per turn, up to a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus.
Sync (Ally Link): You and a willing creature each gain advantage on your next two attack rolls, saving throws, or checks.
Redirect (Enemy Hack): Target creature makes a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + proficiency + Int or Cha mod). On failure, you impose disadvantage on their next attack or save and see through their eyes until the start of your next turn.
This feature can only be used once per long rest.
Integrated Systems
You begin with one of the following augmentations, chosen at character creation. You choose one Integrated System upgrade now and a second enhancement at 5th level.
1. Combat Augmentor – A retractable melee weapon (finesse/light, 1d6 damage of chosen type) embedded in your arm. You are proficient with it.
2. Ocular HUD – You can cast detect magic at will (no concentration, but lasts only 1 round per turn).
3. Echo Memory Drive – Gain expertise in one skill you are proficient in.
At the 5th level, your system undergoes a firmware upgrade, unlocking deeper functionality. Choose one augmentation you didn’t select at 1st level, or one of the following advanced enhancements:
4. Amplified Processor – You can add your proficiency bonus to one type of saving throw you’re not normally proficient in.
5. Grav-Assist Limbs – You are always under the effect of the Feather Fall spell, and your jump distance is doubled.
