Homebrew Aranea Species Details

Originating from the Underdark as Lolth's servants, these arachnid-based creatures have now casted her aside and formed their own societies all over the material plane. Their territorial nature, love of the art of weaving, and penchant towards trapping has made a race of people who do not enjoy getting along with others outside of their kind. Many outside of their colonies are not even aware of their existence.

Their stone-grey skin and elven-like features makes them often mistaken for Drow--at a distance. Their telltale stature and overabundance of limbs sets them apart, although not many are able to get close enough to be able to tell a difference before they are entrapped and consumed. Due to their hypersensitive eyes and incredible hearing, they are prone to being blinded by the harshness of sunlight, making them unparalleled hunters in the dark but massive sitting ducks in the expanses of Faerunian fields.

Aranea Traits

Creature Type: Humanoid
Size: Medium (about 6–8 feet tall)
Speed: 40 feet

As an Aranea, you have these special traits.

Darkvision

You have Darkvision with a range of 120 feet.

Manifold Arms

Your arachnid ancestry has granted you 3 arms on each side of your torso, each having half the strength of a normal humanoid arm. You may use 1 arm to hold a light weapon, 2 arms to hold an one-handed weapon, 4 arms to use a two-handed weapon, and 3 arms to use a shield. Using 3 arms for a versatile weapon counts as using it two-handed. You may use any combination of arms for each weapon.

Spider Climb

You have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed and you can move up, down, and across vertical surfaces and upside down along ceilings, while keeping 2 of your hands free.

Spinnerets

At level 5, with the spinnerets within your abdomen you gain the capability to cast the Web spell once per Long Rest. Constitution is your spellcasting modifier for this spell.

Stalker's Instincts

You have proficiency in the Survival skill, and in the Stealth or Perception skill.

Trained Sensitivity

Your honed senses make your ears and eyes trained for stalking. While in sunlight, you have disadvantage on ranged attack rolls, as well as on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight. Your enhanced hearing gives you disadvantage on saving throws against effects that deal thunder damage. This does not apply if you are deafened or are otherwise unable to hear.

Venomous Blood

You have resistance to poison damage.

Web Walker

You ignore movement restrictions caused by webbing.
